Ideas were a grand thing, in fact Kaylee had kept herself more busy than usual this week gone, after all that wistful talk around Simon she'd sorted herself a project. Some had donated cards, there weren't a big bunch of them – but enough a few people could go on a money haul and perhaps they could set up some sort of distribution of it back on the train – though she didn't exactly have a deadline, given any day could be 'wake up in China day' she worked hard to see it'd be done as soon as humanly possible, just to be prepared – sitting up later hours to work, like she had on Serenity, though there was no expecting her up just as early to work the next day. Again the train had woken to the dark of the tunnels, hadn't stopped yet, so she still had time - a little or a lot? Wasn't a given either way. She'd built a programmer from scratch before – plenty of times before, plus a magnetic stripe was less complex than a circuit board. Added to that the programming would be done on the laptop for the most part.. easy as pie, right? Well, assuming she had the parts. Little bits and pieces, wires, adapters and casing that meant nothing on their own, but just might do the trick when they're cobbled together. Soldering wasn't an activity Kaylee found so appropriate for the bedroom – the smell, the ..burny sort of activity that it was – but wiring was okay, stripping back the plastic and entwining the little wires. The last little bit before she could snap on the casing and test the thing out. Couple hours more and it ought to be shiny. Simon had his own stuff to keep him busy. Another doctor had arrived, Kaylee almost as thankful for it as she assumed he'd be too for it. Still a whole of two doctors and a few other medical staff didn't exactly mean the work was evened out – and though there wasn't exactly a line for folk needing limbs reattached and gunshot wounds treated, she knew it was important to him that the infirmary be manned and kept in good standards throughout the days. As absorbed in her task as she might be, Kaylee's bright gaze darted up the moment the door went to see Simon wander in. “Hey you.” She greeted softly, hopping up from her spot curled up cross-legged on the couch, setting what looked like an explosion of wire and circuitry down as she met him with a kiss. “How'd you go today? How's the ..kinda new- ..but ain't exactly new Dr Banner settlin' in?” |
