Characters: Cassie, Chris
When: Thursday, shortly after his arrival
Location: Chris's room
Warnings/Rating: Probably language
Summary: Chris is here, but in need of aid.
Status: Closed/ongoing

Chris was here, and that really didn't help Cassie believe this whole thing was real, if anything it only made her more sure she'd made up this entire place in her head. The thing was she didn't care anymore, not now Chris was here, because that was all that mattered, him being here, living and breathing and talking about his cock. She'd missed him so much, and never quite stopped hating herself for running away when he'd died, but now here he was, which meant she could get another chance, they both could. Because she wasn't going to let anything happen to him, not again. She was going to look after him properly this time and everything would be okay.

She'd grabbed a few things for him to wear, nothing was especially suitable but the baggage car was so far away and she just wanted to see Chris again. She'd run all the way to his room, leaping out of the way of the various other passengers until she was outside his door and knocked loudly, bouncing slightly as she waited for him to answer.

To kill some time until Cassie got there, Chris decided to continue browsing net posts. For some odd reason, there was a lot of talk about zombies. "What in the name of Queen Liz's knickers..." He mumbled to himself. Were these people high on something he'd never heard of before? The only thing that reassured him was knowing Cassie would be there soon. Hopefully, she'd have some kind of explanation. If the reason for all this was drugs, he'd be perfectly content. If not, well, he'd deal anyway.

Luckily, Percy wasn't in the moment Chris woke up naked in their cabin, but he kept a pillow over his lap just in case. When he finally heard a knock at his door, though, he completely forgot about his oath to be more mysterious. In his excitement, Chris dropped his device onto the bed, bounced up onto his feet and started towards the door, having to double back to grab his pillow before he finally opened it.

He'd seen Cassie yesterday at school, but it was definitely a relief to know she was with him (wherever they were).

"There you are." Chris beamed and leaned in for a one-armed hug. "How's my gentleman look?" He asked, stepping back to strike a pose with his pillow.

A part of her had still been convinced he wasn't really here, that it wouldn't really be him. She could have imagined the whole conversation, it wouldn't have been the first time after all.

When he opened the door her smile grew even wider. It was him! It was really honestly Chris, the one person from Bristol she really wanted to see again. She hugged him back tightly, a sudden wave of emotion making her close her eyes before she burst into tears. She'd missed him so much and now he was here.

Of course Cassie had had years of practice pretending everything was just fine and now was no different she laughed at his question and gave him a quick once over. "Wow Chris, yeah total classy and mysterious," she agreed. "If only I'd had more time, I'd have make a top hat and bowtie for him." She stepped in and handed over the clothes. "S'pose you'll both have to make do with these for now though."

Chris wasn't all that sharp when it came to noticing details and reading between the lines. Still, he could've sworn he felt something was off when he stepped out of their hug and got a better look at Cassie. She seemed more startled than usual, but he quickly shrugged the concern off his shoulders. What could possibly be bothering her about seeing him? They were together on some magical train and, though their other friends weren't on-board yet, he was sure they'd be joining them soon.

Chris grinned at Cassie's approval, then shut the door to his cabin once she'd stepped in. "We still have time to find them before the gala event -- that's how gentlemans say party, yeah? Anyway, we're goin' to have a party in this very cabin." Chris took the clothes she handed to him and turned away to try them on.

"These pants are perfection, Cass. Thanks." Chris slipped them on and was surprised that they fit quite nicely. At that point, it was safe for the gentleman to turn around, facing Cassie as he held up the shirt. He considered it for a moment, nodding. "Just my color." It was clearly cut for a girl, because it was too short for him, but Chris did appreciate how soft it felt. Really. "So smooth, like a baby's bum," he smirked, running his hand over the fabric.

Of course Cassie was also a couple of years older than she'd been when he'd last seen her, although she didn't really know where he was from, he'd ended up naked more times than she could count. All she knew was that he was alive and that was all she cared about.

"Paper or fabric?" she asked, "because I could totally make them for you." It was something to do, something to focus on other than what the hell this was. "Are we? What just the two of us? Not that I'm against that, I just don't really know anyone here yet." Plus she hated it here, or had done until this moment.

She didn't turn away she he started to change, because it seemed pointless, even for all his talk of mystery, she'd seen it so many times before and half of her was afraid that if she turned away he might just disappear and she couldn't bear that. She smiled at his comments, nothing ever got him down, it was nice, almost contagious. "There's more appropriate stuff in the other car on the train," she said, "but I figured since it was an emergency...so, now you're all clothed and everything we should talk, yeah?" She paused a moment, not sure how to ask any of the questions on her mind. "How are you feeling?" she settled on.

"Whichever. As long as it isn't prickly like this pathetic excuse for a blanket. I tried using it as a toga, but it was hell for the lads." Chris pointed to the culprit, which he'd tossed onto the floor after about five minutes of wear. He took a seat on the edge of his bed and patted the spot beside him so Cassie would join him. "With the two of us it's always a party, yeah?" Chris smirked. "I chatted with a couple of people on that computer thing over there and they didn't seem all bad." He shrugged a bit and watched her, still sensing there was something off. This wasn't the Cassie he'd seen yesterday at school, that was for sure.

"I'm feeling good, y'know... I totally forgot about the coursework we had to hand in today for Psychology so it's good to be here." Angie would've been terribly disappointed in him and that was the last thing he wanted. There was also the matter of waking up and finding out his mum was gone, but that wasn't something he wanted to get into right now. "What about you? How long have you been here?"

"Fabric's probably better, don't want the gentleman getting a paper cut now do we?" she pointed out, plus she was probably better with fabric anyway. She looked over to the blanket, sure she recognised it. It had been a long time ago but it had been one of things she remembered because even while they'd all pretended everything was fine it really wasn't and she remembered moments like that. She sat down beside him when he did, trying to ignore how happy she was that he was here, although he probably wouldn't have noticed, she'd always been pretty enthusiastic after all, especially before he'd...well it was probably better not to think about that. "Course, all we need's alcohol and music, which we should be able to get pretty easily, there's the entertainment and a bar, which is cool." And with Chris here getting drunk felt like the right thing to do, as long as there were no pills it's be fine, right? And sure, the people seem nice enough, not that I've really been out much, this place it's so...weird." Weirder than anything she could ever come up with she was sure.

"Oh wow yeah, no more homework worries, excellent!" she agreed, not that it was something she'd ever really had to worry about, okay so she was...troubled but she was a good student, more intelligent than anyone gave her credit for. "A couple of weeks, and I'm..." she wasn't really sure how to answer. "Much better now you're here," she decided nudging him with her shoulder.

"Gah." Chris grimaced at the mere thought of the beloved gentleman getting a paper cut. "Yeah. Definitely fabric. I dunno why the fuck I said either." He shook his head, clearly confused by his first response. Anyway. Back to thinking about better, brighter things than getting paper cuts in terrible places.

"A stocked bar on the train? Ace... I don't have music with me. Or anything, for that matter. If the train waited another hour or so, I'd be on here with all those goodies, man." Chris was halfway to school when it happened. He was surprised he made it that far without anyone calling the police on him. "Now we just need to figure out where to get some pot. Maybe somewhere out there?" He pointed to the wreck of a town outside the window. It didn't seem like there was anyone around, but that made it all the more appealing. "It looks abandoned, but I'm sure we'd find something if we raided an empty house or something." It was an idea.

He smiled a bit when Cassie said she was better now that he was around. "Aw, Casssssssssss!" Chris slipped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close to him. "This train is our new playground now. I wouldn't have picked anyone else to be here with me, y'know?"

"It's okay, Chris, you don't have to be smart that's what I'm here for," she joked. She wouldn't let him get hurt, not even in the smallest of ways, not if she could help it. Maybe this was it - his second chance, which meant it was her second chance as well.

"I know, pretty handy, isn't it? Especially as I was on my way to a bar when I showed up here." The vodka and the boy who'd looked a but like Chris had been the only things stopped her from going completely freaking about this place. "There's music in the entertainment car, maybe that's all we need? I mean...all those pills, Chris, they're fun for a while yeah? But... just for a while, right?" The idea of pot didn't seem so bad though, that was practically medicinal after all, but she didn't fancy their chances, not where they were at the moment. "It looks bloody terrifying," she corrected, "I don't think we should go out there, it looks dangerous." And if he got eaten by a zombie was so soon after he showed up she didn't know what she'd do.

Cassie rested her head against Chris's shoulder and closed her eyes for a mmoment, trying to push away the tears that were threatening to come. She was so happy he was here, but she couldn't stop thinking about what had happened, about what she'd done. "No?" she said sounding surprised, because she really was, they'd got much closer later on, when they'd shared the flat, when he'd taken her in, but before that, when she thought he was from." She opened her eyes and kissed his cheek. "Neither would I. Love you, Chris," she said softly.

"Brilliant." He grinned. "You be smart and I'll be... The monkey man!" Those last couple of words were uttered in a deeper voice, accompanied by Chris's trademark monkey man facial expression.

"What'd you mean? Pills are good, Cass. Everything's good! I mean, whatever we can get our hands on, y'know?" Chris didn't understand exactly why she was against them, but he definitely wouldn't mind getting his hands on any kind of prescription medication. "Well, if we can't go out there, maybe someone on the train has some spliff? Or if there's some kind of nurse or infirmary..." Being quite experienced in raiding the one back at school meant he knew exactly what they stocked that could be useful.

His mind was practically bubbling with ideas, even as Cassie rested her head on his shoulder. "We just compliment each other so well, y'know? That's what I think. I'm surprised we didn't join forces before." He smiled at the kiss she gave him. Though he was surprised by it, and what she said next, Chris felt a certain warmth. Comfort, even. "Love you, Cass." He pressed his lips gently to her forehead.

"Sounds perfect," she agreed, pushing away all the memories that his words were stirring him. The t-shirt she'd stolen for him, and how everything had turned to shit immediately after. She was stunned she was holding it together, clearly all those years of pretending she was fine had really paid off, because all she really wanted to do was scream and cry and hold on to him.

"Oh yeah, pills are great just...fuck Chris we take so many, maybe...you know maybe it's not the best idea." Cassie had always loved pills, loved the feeling of being outside herself, or feeling confident and lovely, but Chris, he'd never cared what he took, anything and everything was fine, only maybe it wasn't, maybe it'd made everything worse. "I just worry about what they might do, and y'know this place is already pretty trippy, I can't imagine what it'd be like high. But yeah there are doctors and stuff, but just...be careful, yeah? I don't want anything happening to you, you know?"

It was so weird, they hadn't been that close when they'd first been at college, she hadn't really expected him to be as happy as he was to see her, and part of her wondered if he was just being nice, because was what Chris was - nice, better than nice really, she really hadn't deserved his friendship. But what he said was true, they were so alike. The biggest party animals, taking anything they could, fucking anyone they could. It was a wonder they'd never had sex actually, they had to have slept through half the population of Bristol that was under 18 between them. She wasn't really like that now, but only because of what had happened to him. Like her cleaning up her act was a mark of respect for him. "Well I was in a mental health clinic, so that probably didn't help," she said, "we should make up for lost time. Since it's just the two of us and everything." She beamed when he kissed her and said it back, an actual real smile, even though all the turmoil going on in her mind, because he was here now, and that was what really counted. "So you'll look after yourself, yeah? For me?" She asked.

"Ah, Cass... They won't do anything bad. Pills are good! That's why doctors prescribe them. Most of the time they don't do what they're supposed to, anyway. So why not use them for a high?" Chris wasn't stupid. He knew very well there was a risk in taking as many pills as he did without needing them, but that didn't mean he cared. So far, so good, right? Nothing bad happened to him so far. Talking about all this reminded him of his mural of pill packages back home. And that tit that locked him out. Well, he'd start a new one on the train and didn't have to about that wanker anymore.

"Don't you worry about me. If there's anyone as talented at riding out a trip as me, I'd be bloody surprised. And fuckin' impressed!" Chris was off on another one of his tangents, and failed to truly notice the extent of Cassie's concern for him. Most of his friends were used to his ways, so it wasn't often someone told him to tone it down.

"I know where you were." Chris heard all of it from Tony, Sid and the others. He didn't judge, though. Cassie probably went through a lot and everyone dealt with their problems in a different way. "We definitely should and will," Chris answered with a nod, happy to see that she was being positive about their time together on the train.

Then she asked him to look out for himself again. Chris didn't know what to say at first. He pulled away from her just enough to look into her eyes. "Why are you so worried about me, eh?" He still had no idea that some people on the train came from different times, so it seemed kind of strange that Cassie would suddenly be so concerned about him. "How about we start off raiding the infirmary? That way you can let me know when I've had enough, yeah?"

She wondered if he really believed that, or if it was just something he told himself to make okay, which she understood of course, she told herself lots of things to make they were okay, she still did, which was why she wasn't really eating again. That was how people got through things, wasn't it? "I think it depends on the type of pills," she pointed out. She bad saying it, like she being a downer or something, but she'd rather him hate her than let anything to happen to him, she just had to remember that.

That was the thing about Chris, he didn't have a cruel bone in his body, he was just the best person she knew. He didn't look down on her or take the piss because of everything she'd done, maybe that was why she was so keen on keeping him safe, because he really hadn't deserved what had happened. "I'm really glad you're here, Chris," she said, just in case he hadn't got that already.

Oh fuck. She really hadn't worked this out very well at all. Maybe she should've just talked to one of the doctors, explained the situation and got them to say they knew because the train had told them or something, only there hadn't been time and she hadn't been thinking about anything other than how much she'd wanted to see Chris again and now she didn't know what to say. She wasn't supposed to know anything, not even about Peter, had he told anyone yet? "Because I'm still sort of convinced this is a really, really bad trip or something," she said after a moment, "and I just worry about you, okay? I don't want you having a bad reaction or anything. I just don't want anything bad happening to you." She swallowed hard, feeling her façade starting to crack as she hoped more than anything that he wouldn't notice. "Maybe we can just see if we can do a stock check?" she agreed, hoping this would be a reasonable compromise. "Just see what there is? I don't think it's like back home, they can't just reorder things, you know?"

"It could be." Chris shrugged. Usually, his trips weren't as vivid or lucid, but they were never the same. It could be that, this time, his pill-popping took him somewhere completely different. "Very pleasant kind of trip, though," he added with a chuckle and a small nod. Usually, there were a more than a couple of unpleasant things about tripping. The good outweighed the bad, in his opinion, but the whole room spinning thing wasn't his cup of tea at all. Luckily, this wasn't the case on the train.

Again, Chris found it somewhat odd that Cassie was so concerned with him all of a sudden. Did the boys tell her about his mum disappearing on him yesterday or something? He didn't want to get into that, though. Meaning he wasn't going to bring it up by asking. "I won't have a bad reaction! I know what my body likes. It likes pills a lot. And shagging," he grinned, but saw that the look on Cassie's face was still filled with concern. Maybe it was because they were somewhere neither of them were familiar with that she was so worried something bad could happen? "Hey, don't worry, alright? We'll watch each other's backs on here. Nothing bad's going to happen," Chris reassured her, in a rare moment of not dancing around serious subjects by cracking some kind of joke.

"Alright, alright. Fair enough." He decided to compromise on the nursery raid just so Cassie wouldn't worry. Of course, that didn't mean Chris wouldn't grab a couple of boxes and sneak them into his pockets anyway. "Ready?"

She still couldn't believe any of this was real, it really was far too much to take in, and Chris being here only made her more sure she'd lost her mind, only she couldn't really say that, not to him, she didn't want people to think she was mad, not even lovely, lovely Chris who'd probably just try to help. "Have you seen outside?" she asked, it didn't seem very nice to her, none of it did, even if the people were okay the very idea of a time travelling train made her feel physically ill if she thought about it too much.

"Just as well I didn't say shagging bad's for you as well, isn't it?" she said with a little smile, trying to lighten the mood, distract herself from everything else. She nodded when he said they'd watch each backs, it seemed like a relatively fair compromise and it wasn't as if there were many drugs Chris could get his hands on, they probably kept a really good eye on them here. "Okay, sorry...I just...being here it's been sort of crap, you know?"

"You want to go now?" she asked, although she wasn't sure why she was surprised, of course he did. Chris was probably the one person that took more pills than she did. "Sorry I haven't got any of the pills they gave me at the clinic left, Chris. I'd have given you those." Because really they didn't seem to do anything at all, so what harm could they have done?

She kissed him on the cheek again and stood up waiting for him. "Ready."

"I had a look around, yeah." Chris nodded and turned slightly in his seat so he could have another look outside. "I mean, yeah... Looks like shite. But we need to get something out of it, right? This train stopped here for a reason." Shoulders lifted in a small shrug. Chris was used to seeing weirder and more messed up things in his dreams and trips. Being on a time traveling train was more of an adventure than anything else. He was excited to explore, but didn't want to frighten Cassie by telling her he fully intended on taking an afternoon stroll sometime soon.

Her concern and displeasure in being there was obvious enough. Chris didn't like seeing her that way. He had every intention of livening her spirits. Maybe all Cassie needed was a small push in the right direction. Though he didn't know her as well as his other friends, something told him she had it in her to be optimistic about what happened. "Don't worry. I'm here now. Things can only get better, yeah?"

Chris grinned at the kiss and quickly bounced up onto his feet. He offered his arm out for Cassie to link hers through, then waited for her to lead the way to the infirmary.

"I'm not entirely sure it works like that," she admitted, she hadn't heard a lot about the train, because she hadn't wanted to, but she knew none of it was good. Still she really couldn't tell him what he could or couldn't do, hopefully if things did go badly someone would be able to help him.

"Yeah, absolutely," she agreed. She wanted to be happy again, she didn't want to spend all her time worrying, it was just so difficult, all of it. She felt so conflicted at the moment, but underneath all that she was happy he was here, not even Sid showing up would have made her happier.

With a smile she took his arm and lead him out of the room and down the cars. It would be okay, it wasn't like back home after all, there were only so many pills he could get his hands on, until they stopped somewhere else that was.
