So Sorry
Characters: Lily Lu, Don
When: the day after the punch heard 'round the train
Location: their room
Warnings/Rating: ftb
Summary: Lily is ashamed of her father's actions :(
Status: Complete

When she'd returned to the room after her attempt to shed some of her frustrations, she'd heard about what had happened. She was shocked, and appalled, and she couldn't honestly believe that her father had hit her lover.

What had he hoped to accomplish with that?

She'd gone to her grandmother nearly immediately (well, once she'd talked to Don about what had happened), and she'd waited in her and Severus' room while they made a bruise paste. While she didn't imagine Severus particularly cared about her problems, her grandmother had listened. Lily hadn't seemed particularly pleased to hear about it, but she'd also made it clear she wasn't getting involved.

Lily didn't blame her. She was living through it and didn't want to be involved in it. She'd known it wasn't going to go well when her father heard about Don, but she hadn't honestly thought it would devolve to her father punching him.

After she'd obtained her bruise paste, she'd returned to the room to carefully apply it to Don's face. She felt horrible. She hadn't punched him, but somehow it was still her fault things had gone the way they had. While Don had assured her it wasn't her fault, and he wasn't going to leave her over it, she still felt miserable.

Part of her wanted to call her father on it, but most of her thought that ignoring him entirely would have a bigger impact. Which sucked -- all she'd wanted for months was for her father to show up and know her. Now that he was here, she was too mad at him to want to talk to him.

Lily glanced over to Don where he sat reading, and she bit down on her lower lip to keep from apologizing to him yet again. She was sure he was tired of reassuring her, but every time she saw the fading bruise on his face, she was angry all over again.

Exhaling, Lily flopped back on the bed, gazing at the chipped polish on her toenails. Maybe she'd redo her nails; it was something to do, anyway.

Don lifted one shoulder in a shrug. He didn't like Harry in the least, but he could relate at least a little bit. Sometimes you just needed to punch someone. He wasn't thrilled that he got the punch and he thought it was only going to hurt Harry's case, but he really just wanted the situation to die down.

All right, there was also a part of him that wanted to get to throw a punch of his own. He was trying to repress that part.

"No, it doesn't." He replied with a shake of his head and a light smirk. He had a hard time believing that there were many men who would be bothered by dating a younger woman. He saw it happen often enough, anyway. He wondered how high and mighty Harry would be if a beautiful eighteen year old came onto him.

"I assume it doesn't bother you either," he arched a brow as he regarded her, reaching over to trail a hand down her body. He actually liked what they had. He liked that she didn't try to make him hang out with her friends and when they were together, it was nice.

"It bothers me," Lily murmured as she arched under his touch. "It bothers me so much that ... I should probably leave you ... soon." She grinned up at him before she cocked her head a little. "it bothers me so much, that's why I keep coming back to you," she teased him.

She knew she could keep grumping and grousing about her father, or she could just try to push it away and focus on Don. Somehow, focusing on Don seemed like the better option all around.

"I didn't mean to interrupt your reading," she began, her brows elevating slightly as she shifted her body closer to his. "I was just going to repaint my nails," she continued as she reached out to toy with one of the buttons on his shirt. Without actually unbuttoning it, she let her hand fall away. "Guess I should let you get back to that," she decided as she started to oh so slowly draw away from him.

"Soon," he echoed with a disbelieving smile. He was curious if she would want to discuss it any further. He couldn't exactly say that he did. He didn't imagine this would be the end of it all together. She would make up with Harry and he didn't know Harry well enough to guess what the man's plan of action would be.

Hopefully, he would keep his nose out of it and they could find some semblance of peace.

"Yes you did," he challenged teasingly when she claimed she didn't want to interrupt his reading. Even if he'd been deeply captivated by the story -- which he hadn't been -- he wouldn't have minded an interruption. Well, depending on what the interruption was ... where they were heading now seemed nice, though.

He draped an arm around her, his hand pressing against her side to try to hinder her progress in easing away even as he leaned down to cover her lips with his own.

"I didn't," she protested. She hadn't, exactly, though she couldn't say she wouldn't have tried harder if her sigh hadn't caught his attention. Really, she would have been more or less content to do her nails first, if he'd been busy.

Clearly though, he hadn't been, if he was over here with her.

"Not that I'm saying you should go back to it," she said, just in case he was going to get any ideas about actually ditching her for a book. "You know. Since you're already here." Lily grinned to him as he held her in place, and her eyes closed as he lowered his head to kiss her.

She slipped one hand behind his head, gripping the back of his neck gently as she deepened the kiss slowly. Unsurprisingly, she felt herself already aroused as she parted her lips, her tongue teasing against his mouth.

Some days, she really thought they should try to do something other than shag, but most days, she was perfectly fine with their arrangement. They shagged, they talked, once in a while she'd con him into the entertainment car and cuddle with him while they watched a movie. It might not be anyone else's picture of a perfect relationship, but she liked it. She had him, and he had her, and that was all she could ask for on the train.
