When she'd returned to the room after her attempt to shed some of her frustrations, she'd heard about what had happened. She was shocked, and appalled, and she couldn't honestly believe that her father had hit her lover. What had he hoped to accomplish with that? She'd gone to her grandmother nearly immediately (well, once she'd talked to Don about what had happened), and she'd waited in her and Severus' room while they made a bruise paste. While she didn't imagine Severus particularly cared about her problems, her grandmother had listened. Lily hadn't seemed particularly pleased to hear about it, but she'd also made it clear she wasn't getting involved. Lily didn't blame her. She was living through it and didn't want to be involved in it. She'd known it wasn't going to go well when her father heard about Don, but she hadn't honestly thought it would devolve to her father punching him. After she'd obtained her bruise paste, she'd returned to the room to carefully apply it to Don's face. She felt horrible. She hadn't punched him, but somehow it was still her fault things had gone the way they had. While Don had assured her it wasn't her fault, and he wasn't going to leave her over it, she still felt miserable. Part of her wanted to call her father on it, but most of her thought that ignoring him entirely would have a bigger impact. Which sucked -- all she'd wanted for months was for her father to show up and know her. Now that he was here, she was too mad at him to want to talk to him. Lily glanced over to Don where he sat reading, and she bit down on her lower lip to keep from apologizing to him yet again. She was sure he was tired of reassuring her, but every time she saw the fading bruise on his face, she was angry all over again. Exhaling, Lily flopped back on the bed, gazing at the chipped polish on her toenails. Maybe she'd redo her nails; it was something to do, anyway. |
