Jaime knew, but Jaime knew most things about her. Jaime, however, was unsurprised, and offered to help deflect if necessary. Lily reasoned that once it reached Sirius' ears, deflection would be a necessity. She ... rather hoped it never did reach Sirius' ears, but she knew better. If he ever asked her point blank, she wouldn't be able to lie about it. Well, she could try, but he could read her nearly as well as James had been able to, and he'd likely know something was up. Unlike Remus, he'd likely call her on her lie rather than accept she'd tell him when she was ready. She supposed it was a bit obvious, now that she and Severus were openly sharing a room. Jaime had commented she'd seemed happier lately, which was yet another telling feature. She was happier. She'd confronted her conflicting emotions, she'd made her decision, and she didn't regret it. Should James ever show up again ... she'd deal with it properly this time and take what came. He'd have friends here to lean on, either way. After dinner, Lily always spent time cleaning up the kitchen, and lately, checking their dwindling supplies. They had enough for a bit longer, she reasoned, but how much, she wasn't sure. Especially if the train kept expanding. Since Tortuga was an unknown factor, she knew better than to count on anything substantial there, but ... even if Tortuga itself was unpopulated, the ones who could fly or apparate or teleport or phase could venture to other locales and gather what they could for the train. She was hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. It seemed the best mindset to keep in regard to the train. She also wanted to try to find more clothing in general; the supply in the baggage car was wearing thin as well as they picked up more people. At least everyone lately had arrived dressed, so there was that. It was a miserable situation, and she wondered if the train had a mind to try to wear them down or some such. But she was done second guessing the train. What would be, would be. Wringing out the sponge over the sink, Lily washed her hands and then dried them on the towel before surveying the kitchen. It looked tidy enough, and she began the process of setting things up for morning. Coffee grounds in the filters, coffee makers filled, tea in easy reach, the menu for the morning set on the counter so whoever got there first could start in on it. With things as set as they could be, she turned to head out, pausing when she saw the door opening. |
