To say it had been a long night for James would have been an understatement. James had spent all of his waking hours (which were beginning to take over the ones he was supposed to spend sleeping) since the plague outbreak back home working tirelessly to figure out the cause and the cure of the illness. Ultimately, his insatiable curiosity had led him here which put him right back on the same path he'd been back home. But this time instead of looking into rare, magical diseases he spent his time looking into rare, dark magic. The results were the same though. James was beat down, spread thin, losing himself in his work in order to help other people but other people weren't exactly helping him. Tonight had been especially rough on James. The fear he'd had to grapple with. The surprises he had to overcome. James had learned certain dark spells at Ajax's insistence. The other man thought it necessary should James ever encounter any Death Eaters without him. James had been reluctant at first, but once again his curiosity overrode his rational judgment and he'd folded. It seemed like it was a good thing he had too otherwise who knows how tonight would have gone. After James had used all the disarming spells in his arsenal, he'd turned to the ones Ajax had taught him and that had done the trick. That had saved Belle. That had saved him.
That didn't change how charged he was right now though. In fact, he was pretty sure he felt this way because he had just used such a dark spell. The adrenaline from it was only just beginning to fade now, leaving behind aches and pains in its wake from all the energy he'd used to fight off the Snatcher and all the time he'd spent trampling around in a bloody forest looking for his brother only to discover he was safe at home. He didn't even want to try and begin to tackle the Lily issue right now. His mind couldn't handle it. He needed a drink. Returning to the Bole estate shortly after he'd heard his brother was okay, he immediately went to retrieve a bottle of whiskey and two tumblers from the kitchen before making the treck to Ajax's study and knocking on the door. "It's James, can I come in?" he called through the thick wooden doors, waiting for the affirmative before letting himself in and crossing the room to join Ajax in front of the fire. Sinking into one of the plush chairs, he set the tumblers and the bottle of whiskey on the coffee table. "I need a drink and you're going to share one with me." he explained, pouring them each a generous amount before handing one over to Ajax. "I used one of the spells you taught me earlier." he added after another moment, taking a sip from the tumbler and staring into the fire. "You were right. Thanks."
