Late-Summer Festival Announced by John Turner
The Eureka Springs Town Council annouced the date of the 50th Annual Eureka Springs Late-Summer Arts Festival Friday. A staple of the town for the last half-century, the arts festival has been responsible for launching local artists to national attention. The festival will take place from August 23 to 29 on Main Street. Any over-flow will be compensated for using side streets.
The Mayor has said that this year's festival is set to be the best to date. With more than 150 artists signed up and more coming from neighboring communities there is sure to be greater attention paid than even last year. Last year's event attracted art insiders from as far as New York City.
Blood Drive Extended by Uta Larkey
Due to a continued lack of participation, the Eureka Springs Hospital's annual summer blood drive has been extended into September. While no headway has been made into the disappearance of the drive's early donations, hospital officials state that by this point there is little to no chance of the blood being recovered. "Even if it was," said Dr. Kevin Stark, "it would be unusuable unless it were properly stored. And given the conditions outside, we highly doubt that we could use it for fear of possible contamination."
The Eureka High School Gymnasium will be partially cordoned off for use in the blood drive - given the desparate need - from September 1 till 13 even after classes begin and will after be moved to the vestiblue of the Town Administrative Building. If extensions are needed past that date other arrangements will be made.
Coroner says 'Suicide' Claim Inconclusive by Guy Raymond
Nearly a week after being found dead in his room, local coroner Charles Hall has been unable to come up with evidence to support the original ruling of suicide in the death of 29 year old James Brendan. Found with all the doors and windows locked, friends reported that Brendan had been depressed and slightly withdrawn in recent days. Local law enforcement had been taken off the case after the initial ruling, but given the results sources have every belief the case will be reopened.

Press Conference on Spring Street Sighings Assures of Inquiry by Harriet Jensing
Four individuals injured by the mystery assailants on Spring Street will be fine, according to Sheriff John Turnin. In a press conference this morning in front of the Administrative Building, the Sheriff and two deputies gave a summery of the events and measures being taken to apprehend these invisible bandits. Starting in May, Spring Street has been visited by unidentifiable individuals who - according to security camera footage - have no dissernable features or size. They attack individuals out late at night. Sherrif's Department officials have advised residents not to take Spring Street after 3:30 AM until this situation is cleared up.
Eureka Springs Hospital out for Blood by Ed Schwartz
With the summer months in full swing Eureka Springs Hospital (ESH) has once again started its seasonal blood drive. With reserves at their lowest point they have been in ten years. This lacking - while not unusual - has hit our community especially hard. With reports that newly donated blood has been disappearing, ESH is asking for your help to replenish its supply. Blood Drives will take place at the firehouse on August 12, 14 and 19 and in the Eureka Springs Middle School gymnasium on the 7, 18 and 24.
Reports of Tunnel Activity, Sheriff: No Comment by Pamela Elsby
For months now shop owners on Main and Spring Streets have reported strange activities heard late at night while taking stock in their basement store rooms. While previous complaints have led to little or no action on the part of the Sherriff's Department, recent events may have forced their hands. A local urban explorers group traversing the tunnels last week has come across signs of what may be signs of illegal activity occurring under the streets of our own hollow. While the Sherriff has made no comment on the issue, the question still remains: What exactly is going on under our streets?

Who: Barbara (not that anyone other than the Bats would know is her) and Open What: Barbara goes out for her first night on the rooftops - not in regular costume When: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 Where: Eureka Springs, Spring Street and others. Why: Because Barbara believes in a few simple things... Status: Open (however anyone wants to put their charies in, do it. Do you want to be on the street? do it! She believed in a few simple things. She wasn't Superman - thus 'Truth, Justice and the American Way' wasn't really on her list. At the moment the one she was fulfilling was 'be prepared.'
