It was invariable. Mulder was lost. Nothing looked familiar, and he had no idea where he was. Why he'd thought to actually venture out beyond the nearby streets near the hotel. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, investigate more of the mystery that had drawn him here in the first place. While he was at it, he intended to see if there weren 't any signs of who or what had brought him here, or what for. But there had been nothing that he could find. No unexplained phenomenon that could be readily investigated.
He reached for his cell, automatically about to call Scully, when he paused and ended the call in mid ring. Scully, who wasn't even here. There had been mention of a Scully in the journals, but he didn't recognize who it was that had said it. Didn't sound like it was someone that Scully knew, though. Surely Scully wouldn't be here, after he'd been missing for over twelve years.
But could she have been brought here has he had? She knew what he did, even if she didn't believe if as he did. If the Syndicate were responsible, wouldn't she have been brought here as well? Or would they have taken steps to prevent them from getting together? But then, it didn't seem likely that the Syndicate was responsible for events here.
He glanced at the bus stop map again. It was the third such map he'd looked at, and he seemed to be getting further from his destination. He pulled a sunflower seed from his pocket, sucking on it briefly as he studied the map, arms moving to point in the direction it seemed that he needed to go in. Next time he did this, he'd remember to bring change for the bus, given they didn't want to make change for a twenty.
Photographic memory, and couldn't read a map or was just that bad with directions. Life was ironic at times, wasn't it? "Learn to read a map, Mulder, you'll make things easier on yourself," he muttered to himself, staring at the map as he made slight adjustments to the outstretched arm.
