Re: ~O~ Are you a good witch or a bad witch?
Jenny 1.0, from what I recall and what I saw, wasn't particularly un-layered, I just think that Silvia took the character to a whole new level, and that that sort of allowed Show to take the character of Jenny to a whole new level.
I think that the main thing is that Silvia is so brilliant at subtlety. She can flinch ever so slightly, and you know exactly what's going on inside her head. She can move an eyebrow and it's heartbreaking. And that means that on Show, you can understand why the people around her don't notice. Because it's so subtle. That, I think, adds a lot to the character - that unlike a lot of soap actors, she doesn't overplay things, so you're never left going, "Oh my god, Marian, CAN'T YOU SEE SHE'S UPSET?!" Because it's reasonably legitimate to believe that he can't tell. Am I making sense?
I do think, though, that Show did some annoying stuff with Jenny *coughendofMaJecough*, or just some very soapy stuff, but it all still seemed to work for her. Even when Show threw stuff at her like, "Okay, so become needy and clingy and poison Lars", it still worked because the character was maintained, and I think that that's largely because Silvia managed to just work these weird moments into her character so that they felt totally legit.
Like, I could see how Jenny would become so clingy with Lars, how she could end up NEEDING him, whereas with Julian and Jenny 1.0, she was more of a vindictive bitch than anything. And that's maybe just because I hadn't seen much before then, so I didn't have all of the history, and maybe because Show just wrte it that way. IDK, but there's a difference, there somewhere.
