(cont'd) because I talk too much
3. Marc and Deniz. Oh, Marc, Marc, Marc. You SO underestimate the boy. I really think that this is Marc's problem. I think he realises that Deniz loves Roman, and that Roman loves Deniz, and that part of his, "Roman is mine, kid, run along and play," attitude is denial and selective attention. BUT. I also think that as well as Deniz's age, the way he reacted to Marc's early confrontations (i.e. like a stroppy little boy) just sort of helped Marc write him off as nothing more than that. Just a stroppy little boy who wants Roman, who is playing House but who isn't emotionally mature enough to feel as deeply as WE know he does. And that goes for Deniz's love for Roman as well as the hurt and anger and everything else he feels. Marc just doesn't give him credit for his maturity, because Marc hasn't really *witnessed* it. I think that probably has a lot to do with the fact that the first time he saw Deniz, he was modeling. I mean, can you think of a more shallow job? That, I think, just solidified Marc's opinion immediately, although I think that after Deniz brushed him off, he gained a bit of respect for him. But not enough to trump everything else he does. Also, Deniz's comments and reactions at the Awkward Brunch of Awkward? We'd go, "Aww", and Roman would roll his eyes like, "That's my Deniz, the little dork", but for Marc, I think that was like, "Uhm, is this kid for real? How old IS he, anyway?" I think he mistakes Deniz's flippancy and childishness for immaturity.
Not to mention the fact that Roman isn't exactly making his relationship with Deniz look all that strong. He keeps MENTIONING Deniz, but it's never *quite* enough to stop him from meeting Marc, or from kissing Marc. Which I think is also a mistake on Marc's part. He just doesn't GET it, and he can't, really, not fully. He's heard a lot about them, sure, from tabloids and papers and probably from other people, but I think there are very few people, even IN Fictional Essen who, even if they don't quite *understand* it all, they get it. Marian, for instance. He doesn't know all that went on in the past years, but he gets that what Deniz and Roman have is in a sense quite profound. That they really do connect in a sense, and I think that's where Marc's getting it wrong. He sees only the vulnerabilities in their relationship, partially through selective attention, and partially because he just can't possibly know.
Whew. *deep breath*
4. Re: stalker vs. lover conversation *points up*.
I don't personally get the stalker vibe from Marc (basically because nothing will ever be quite as squicky as that time Roman slipped into Deniz's shower at the centre in the DeVa days, because DUDE, that was... eeeeh) but I can totally see where people are coming from in that regard. Today's ep was kind of... it did kinf of irritate me that marc showed up and just expected to be let in, but I think that when he offered breakfast, he was really giving Roman an out. If Roman had have said no, I think Marc probably would have pushed a little, challenged him, but he wouldn't have stayed.
I also think that that applies to all the earlier episodes as well. If at any point Marc had gotten the serious vibe from Roman that he wasn't wanted, he would have left. I think Lilith said it: the dinner-invite, I think, was an endpoint to that yes-or-no game. I honestly think that if Roman hadn't shown up, Marc would have left almost immediately. Dejected, yes, and probably seriously upset, but that would have been the end for him. I don't think Marc's the type to persue something that he *knows* will never happen - in his own way, he's much too practical, much too focused.
5. I WANT THE ICE-MUSICAL. This is going to turn into the Axel/Wigboy thing all over again, isn't it? Bait us with the thought of pretty lights and colours and music and Serious Gay, and then just... PFOOF! and it's gone. *sadface* I want dragons, people! *snerk* Besides, I can totally imagine Marc trying to cast Deniz as a tree, or something. Or a goat (because there totally would have been goats in that musical).
