Summary: Rodolphus re-establishes contact with Drucilla.

My Dear Drucilla,

I hope my letter finds you and your family well and that you will forgive me for not contacting you prior to this. I am sure that you will understand that the Ministry has been making my life quite difficult of late and that has regrettably caused me to neglect matters of family. Bella always spoke highly of you and I have long considered you as dear to me as a sister.

I have had some disquieting news from a contact of mine, a Rafael Montague, and I wish to clarify matters before things get too far out of hand. I am sure that I hardly need detail everything here but he claims that your reaction to the removal of your son from the Muggle hospital to St Mungos has been unwarranted and as I know that you would not overreact to a triviality, I thought it best to write to you. Will you tell me what has worried you so? If you have good cause to be so hostile to my contact, of course I will see that he is dealt with appropriately.

He also mentioned that your son has been injured. Is Blaise alright and is there anything I may do for you? I confess that current circumstances limit me but whatever is within my power, I shall do.

Do pass on my best regards to your son and should you speak to them, Lucius, Narcissa and Draco. I remain, as ever,

Yours truly,
Rodolphus Lestrange

Dear Rodolphus,

It is very good of you to say so. I've always looked up to Bella, and her power and strength are something that anyone should aspire to obtain. Although I must admit that I'm not used to being considered anyone's sister.

I thank you for concern, although I'm surprised to hear that Mr. Montague is your contact. Blaise is doing much better, which means so am I. However, what has happened remains a mystery. I was told that he was in a car accident, lost his memory and ended up in Muggle hospital. While this might be the truth, I found out this after Mr. Montague went to said hospital (because you can see how that's a common occurrence), didn't consult a Healer before Apparating Blaise, and had the Healers perform memory charms on Blaise on his consent. Only then was I informed of his return.

You must forgive me, but considering the situation a 'car' accident seemed very unlikely. However, I did go to Mr. Montague for an explanation. In response, he was evasive, claimed to be doing it because he wanted to be helpful (any Slytherin claiming that is simply stupid). He was sarcastic, rude, and dared me to do something to damage his reputation by reporting him to the Minister. Well, after that, the truth became somewhat irrelevant, and proving to the boy that I don't need a Hufflepuff Minister to destroy him seemed a lot more important and entertaining. Poor deluded boy seemed to think that I needed evidence. He doesn't understand how rumours can be a lot more damaging, so I made sure that Cissa asked Draco to 'warn' his friends, because we wouldn't want other Slytherins to suffer. Considering how protective Draco can be of Blaise, I'm sure he was efficient.

I must confess that I still don't know what happened, because I couldn't believe that anyone would just go to random hospitals to help people out, and the two disappearances had me worried. However your assurance that this man isn't somehow responsible would go a long way to change my original assumption (although I can't promise to stop playing with him - just a little). Do let me know what you find out and I'll write Narcissa and Draco to let them know to ease off.

I hope that we will have a chance to speak soon.

Yours,
Drucilla

My Dear Drucilla,

Consider it a small whim of mine. My father chose to emphasise the importance of family when he was educating me as a child.

Montague has his uses and his proximity to the Minister gives him some value. I certainly agree that his behaviour towards you was unacceptable and I have chastised him appropriately. Like all young men, he occasionally allows his position to give him an incorrect view of his place in the world. I have given him advice which I hope he will take.

While I can certainly understand your desire to educate him, may I ask that you refrain until a better time presents itself. As I write, Montague remains a necessary part of my plans and as far as I can determine, not responsible for your son's injuries. You know the penalties I would apply should I find he is lying. However, if at some later stage, he becomes less necessary, I would be more than happy for you to advance your plans.

Until then, do you have someone within or associated with the DMLE that you could approach to give you information? I would like to think that we are not entirely without friends there who could help you in finding out what truly happened to your son. You may set your mind at ease in regards to the recent disappearances however I will say no more in this forum. That is a story better left to more private and secure settings.

Yours,
Rodolphus

Darling,

Far from me to discount the value of family, sometimes there is something to be said about being just cousins. It can be so much more fun.

I will, of course, do as you ask. This is more a whim at this point. I'm more interested in the protection of my son than anything else, and that has always been my concern, and my actions have been a direct consequence of my desire. A little explanation (and possibly even the request for a favour) would have solved a lot of these problems. However, should I have the pleasure of meeting the boy in a more social setting, I'm sure you'll understand that it'll be very nice to play with him, making sure that there are no repercussion naturally.

I've already gone to the one person who will champion all causes because it's right and fair. I believe Mr. Potter is looking into it. I will let you know when I hear from him. Of course, you understand that I can't be too convinced too soon or he'll be suspicious. I will play my part, don't you worry.

I'll expect dinner for being so understanding (and not from the boy, I don't think I could put up with him for an entire night without inflicting damage), and you won't even have to tell me about the horrid news that have been plaguing the Daily Prophet.

Yours,
Drucilla

My Dear,

I do thank you for that, Drucilla. I anticipate that there will indeed come a time that the need for keeping my hand concealed will no longer be necessary. At that time Montague is yours for your entertainment. Until then, confuse and play to your heart's content as long as he still capable of doing what I need of him.

It is indeed nice to know that Potter's need to be the champion of the wizarding world extends even to those he should be more wary of. I suspect that need will, one day, be his downfall.

But of course you must be provided with dinner for your extraordinary forebearance. If you can wait until the house elves have returned my current residence to the its proper glory, I would be delighted to provide you with that dinner. You are setting aside your curiosity? I don't believe you, my dear. Not one bit.

Yours,
Rodolphus

Darling Rodolphus,

It's such a little request on your part, but should you feel inclined to thank me properly, diamonds really are a girl's best friend.

He's... very honest, which is somewhat disconcerting. I would have believef the story coming from him, because the boy seems incapable of lying. However, I would not make the mistake that the Dark Lord made. I only had a few minutes with him, but the boy isn't as stupid as we were led to believe. He's not sophisticated, but he's also not as trusting as you'd think.

I didn't say that I was setting it aside forever, but giving you a little breathing room. I can be distracted under the right circumstances. Until then, I remain

Yours,
Drucilla
