For everyone who threaded during the event on Monday, as you may have seen there's an IC post up regarding notices posted (or that crack pot Reinholdt administering titillating tongue twisters at you) for characters to come obtain packages! In each of the packages will be 500 gil and a slip to obtain one of the following (below) items of the character's choice from the Guild Vault. • Thief's cuffs: improve stealing • Small mantle: increase mag/phy def 10% • Red Shoes: attack up (small increase) • Power Wrist: str up (small increase) • Pheasant Netsuke: increases effect of restore items by 50% • N-Kai Armlet: immune to confuse. halves dark damage • Magic Ring: immune to silence and berserk • Leather mantle: phys/mag def up 15% • Amber armlet: increase attack damage when no weapon is equipped • Germinas boots: immune to immobilize ups speed (small increase) If your character would find none of the above accessories useful, they are also allowed to choose one accessory from the list and sell the accessory back at half its purchase price. Now! Players may have noticed that with each event, the mods are giving specific allotments of gil. Why is this? You may have wondered. The reason we have behind establishing specific gil based rewards is two fold: 1) Wealth, while we don't expect this to play an extreme role in most character's cases, is a form of power. It can buy better gear, it can be used for bribes, it can be used to persuaded certain agents to act in specific manners. Most of the time, we're not going to care about player to player interactions (bribes, persuading, etc). Though, as mods, we need to assure that no one character severely overpowers any others unless there's a specific plot, or other established reasons, which have been agreed upon before the character was brought into play. Regarding players with characters who are supposed to be from significantly wealthy families, please keep in mind that even in most Final Fantasy/Ivalice games even royalty commonly do not come equipped with gear much better than the rest of the party. We've taken this to mean that most people of significant wealth in the Final Fantasy/Ivalice worlds spend significant amounts of their time/wealth on perpetuating and maintaining their current political and social status and can buy some very nice gear, but even then, their additional resources to purchase loot items, is limited due to the above stated ideal. Due to the above, we encourage people to keep in mind wealth levels and, keep at least some vague form of gil tracking. Now, we're not going to say you need to calculate in every bottle of wine bought or hooker your character sleeps with, as most characters have jobs and should be able to afford basic expenses without too much issue. However, for larger purchases, and items that would be classified outside of basic life maintenance (accessories, weapons, armor) we do encourage some form of tracker. For items such as potions, hi-potions, tonics, etc., unless your character is buying these in excessive quantities, we don't care if you track them or not but do ask everyone to keep in mind that these things aren't limitless. That's all folks!~ |
