• Anyone who wants to be down on the docks or near them and awake can be.
• If anyone wants to be part of the EKP or group that responds to fight, they can.
• Anyone can catch wind of the events happening down on the docks thanks to the person running through the city notifying others.
• If you don't feel your character would be directly notified feel free to say an NPC they knew told them/woke them or another PC could have.
• Most of the monsters seem to be coming in swarms. They are not incredibly powerful individually but they seem to travel in packs of 3-5 creatures which makes them hard to defend against as they try to circle what they're fighting against and attack from all sides.
• As they are water monsters they are weak against fire.
• The monsters breach the outer parameter of the city, forcing their way into Emillion a little but not causing any substantial damage and eventually being pushed back onto the docks again in the midst of the storm due to the city's defense response.
• The fight will carry on into the morning with the monsters keeping at it and seem to continue swarming from no where, spawning from the crashing waves and as the storm seems to slowly fade away, the monsters presence seems to die down until the storm has cleared in the morning and the last of the monsters, if not defeated, slink back into the water and swim away.
Monsters!
Mindflayers:(image!) A humanoid monster, it possesses a great intellect and ability with magic, but it's physical form is as weak and soft (and slimy) as it appears. They can, however, use ink to blind their opponents when cornered. Among their magical abilities, they can disrupt concentration and muddle the mind, nullifying status magic and potentially causing Slow, Confuse or Berserk. It's offensive magic is rather mild, however, and only will attempt to cast Drain.
Iguions:(image!) A big, meaty toad, these monsters make up for what they lack in intellect with size and numbers. The most irritating aspect of these groups of giant amphibians is their ability to cast a form of Regen on their group as they attempt to overwhelm and outnumber their opponents.
Iron Crabs:(image!) An ugly crustacean with an iron tough shell. While it's hide is nearly impenetrable and its pincers are both strong and sharp, getting an attack in at its unarmored mouth will do well to slay them.
Water Elemental:(image!) Thankfully there is only one, and this elemental is angry and loaded with magic. Completely neutral to events until the magic starts being flung about, it attacks the nearest party that has cast it. It is weak against fire spells, will absorb any water spells and casts Protect and Shell to half any other damage done to it. This battle takes the longest by far, as the Water Elemental casts Watera, Silence and Sleep. Status effects don't seem to have an effect on it, but once the elemental is defeated, will drop a rare water magicite crystal.
Battle damage!
For those characters participating in this event, please post here and they'll receive a randomized damage roll based upon this chart~
1 - Scratches and bruises. Nothing serious! 2 - Muscle tears, minor cuts, minor fractures. 3 - Open wounds (smaller), moderate fractures. 4 - severe fractures, medium wounds. 5 - Crushed bones, large wounds, in need of serious medical attention but still functional at reduced capacity. 6 - Brink of losing consciousness/unconscious depending on injuries.
Damage rolls here! You all also have been invited to the doc with the ability to edit so that you can enter in modifiers. Now! Speaking of the modifiers~
We like you all to have as much control and interaction with the world as possible, we would also like to do a trial run of a damage/modifier table. Everyone in game currently should have gotten an invite to this document. We (the mods) have already filled in a random damage roll that you character will incur if you choose to have said character(s) participate (either over the course of the battle or in one fell swoop, up to you!) and the five columns to the right of the first roll are modifiers that you and other players can work together to fill in, if you so wish. The modifier’s table is here. This table explains that for each action taken your character will gain a "negative" modifier to lower their total damge. All you need to do, is put the appropriate modifier into one of the modifier columns and the sheet will automatically calculate the “Total Damage” your character has by the end of the fight for you in the “Total Damage” column (in yellow) to the right. Now, cross reference that new number (whatever it is) with the above damage listing, and that is the level of injuries your character ends combat with.
Example:
Aspel got a random roll of 1 damage. As Aspel is a Sentinel everyone who that she’s teamed up with automatically obtains a 1 (represented by a -1 modifier) point bonus (effectively lowering all of her teammates damage by 1). I then decide she is going to cover for Rictor and again for Eden. This then subtracts one point of damage from Rictor and one point from Eden and adds two points of damage to Aspel. This in turn makes Aspel's damage total a 3, Rictors damage total a 5 (or 4 if he’s in the group that gains her sentinel bonus) and Eden's damage total a 1 (or 0 if she's on Aspel's Sentinel team). Then at some point, Darius hits Aspel with a Cura spell which subtracts 2 damage points (represented by a '2'), bringing Aspel’s total of 3, back down to 1.
If that was the end of the fight, Apsel would then walk away with “Scratches and bruises. Nothing serious!” according to the damage list above.
Other Stuff!
• Please, let us know if you have any questions, concerns or anything else regarding this plot by commenting to this post (or the appropriate sub-heading comment below) and we'll get back to you as quickly as possible via a response to this post!
• Your character doesn't need to participate in this plot! This is completely optional but open to all! We just mocked up the table to have everyone's names because it's quicker to remove a row than add one.
• While we are dealing with plot, AC and the up coming player poll, we will be freezing all hold and application processing until May 2nd.
Question! So, I can totally do ALL THE THINGS in this plot with all of my character's abilities, right?! A: Characters are certainly welcome to have at the monsters in any way they want, but we do ask that at least somewhat realistic parameters are kept in mind for combat. As it's raining and storming, fire spells will work, but may be at reduced damage. If you have a class that focuses on singing or speaking with a creature, the effects of such abilities will only go as far as the character can be heard, which, with a storm, the crashing water of the docks (if the character chooses to go down there and not restrict themselves to the protective response in the city) will reduce others abilities to clearly hear things as well. Water spray may mess up gun powder, etc. We're not saying your character's can't do stuff, because they totally can, will and should fuck some monsters up, but these conditions are not optimal and all of this is going to suck.
Question! Can I choose to up my damage score if my character does something dumb? Or alternatively, can it be lowered if my character does something smart? A: Sure! But keep in mind, other players may be more than happy to help compromise and give other reasons for you as to why your damage score might change. Talk amongst yourselves and let's see some awesome stuff!
Question! Can I OOCly tell everyone what my character did by replying with their actions to this post? A: As we've set up a very open and flexible threading post for people to get in on and set up interaction threads with, we would really like to encourage people to use this post for questions, making teams (only if you absolutely need to!), or potentially laying out some of the damage modifiers they can supply to others.
Question! Can my character hit everything, all the time? A: Nope! We don't care how often you hit, or how hard or weak your character's hits are. Just keep in mind, no one has 100% accuracy, no one can hit all critical's and on the other side, no one misses 100% of the time either!
Question! Can I just start adding modifiers to anyone's row? A: Please ask other players before adding modifiers to their character's row. Just to make sure they are comfortable with their character taking less damage.
Question! How'd you come up with the initial damage numbers? A: All initial damage rolls were randomly assigned by rolling a six sided die.
