Carolina turned her smile on Li. "Of course not, darling," she said quietly. "Divina and I were just having a nice conversation." And since she knew Li, she stood and retrieved the other bowl of noodles, bringing it and another fork over to him. "Can you eat?" she asked. She'd seen the expression of pain as he'd sat up, and had seen his hand go to his torso. She assumed he would say yes, though—she'd never known him to decline food, particularly when it was something he liked; so while she waited for his answer, she put the tray out, opened the noodles, and set them in front of him.
After she saw to him—getting water and arranging his pillows so that he wouldn't have to strain so much to remain seated, just as she had for Divina—she kissed his hair and drew her chair closer to his bed, just in case he needed help. He seemed to have received the worse injuries, after all.
