[ wind whistles in the distance; the speakers seem to be on a rooftop of some sort ] MB: Loch. On a scale of 1-10, how busy are you right now? LL: Depends. On a scale of 1-10, how profitable is this idea you're about to pitch me? MB: Eleven. LL: Guess I ain't busy at all, then. MB: Did you hear about the Commerzbank job six months ago? I’ve been keeping my eye on the lads involved — I know a few of them, worked with them before. I was starting to wonder: why does Kerwon get all the fun? LL: [ laughs ] So you come to me, the woman for importing all manner of things illegal. You thinking we ought to learn something from those Kerwonians. MB: Indeed I do. After that job, they already started setting their sights on our continent, lining up the resource, the brute manpower — this crew is tried and tested in this very particular arena, after all — and we got in contact with each other. They’ve been working on the preparations for most of the year. But we still need a machinist to look at the security. They were thinking [ beat ] the Royal Bank of Ivalice. LL: One tiny rub. Could be your boys knew the ins-and-outs of the Commerzbank, but that ain't no guarantee they'll know how to rob the Bank of Ivalice. They ain't all cut from the same cloth, you know. MB: And that’s why we scope it out. I’ve got a hold of the blueprints, and now the true analysis begins. You’d get a cut, of course, and some payment upfront per usual. LL: When's the date? MB: Early Virgo. The bank’s got some new shipments coming in then that should be easier to hit when they’re on their way into the vaults. LL: Sounds like your boys got it figured out. But even the easier shipments are bound to take some doing. You trust these people you're gonna work with? MB: I do. Those times when I’m out of town for months, a year at a time? These are the men I work with abroad. LL: You and your merry bands of misfits. I'll want an equal share of the profits. MB: Equal? When you’re not in the frontlines hypothetically getting shot at? It’ll have to be a bit smaller, darling. LL: When you ain't getting sliced up by traps and security I bypassed for you, is what you mean to say, sweetheart. MB: I’m fairly certain those in the suits on the day-of get extra hazard pay. I’m not saying the bypassing isn’t essential, but you don’t get hazard pay. LL: I may not be there with you physically, but anything I give you to scramble their systems might eventually get traced back to me. If they're conscientious enough about it. And they will be, with those losses. Seems like hazard enough. MB: Ugh. Fine. I’ll discuss it with Lake. [...] I’m not the sole ringleader this time around; it’s a bit of an interesting new experience. LL: [ teasing ] The prima donna, sharing center stage? Must be driving you up the wall. MB: A tad. [ wryly ] But alright. Good. Time to talk some details, then—— [ rustling of paper ] LL: Watch those don't get blown away. I'm growing fond of all this gil we're gonna make. [ LL withdraws a slim silver case from a pocket, takes out a cigarette and offers it to MB. They light up and discuss the blueprints in front of them. On street level, it is a perfectly normal day. ] |
