The body Aspel found herself curled against in the morning didn’t feel quite like any she was accustomed to waking next to. Admittedly… She’d taken to sleeping with a number of people as of late, so perhaps it was the grogginess of the early morn throwing off her perception, but…. Oh. Well. Shifting, Aspel cuddled up against Saeed a bit more, assuring her own comfort, and attempting not to impede his at the same time. The memories of the night before began to funnel in, and the position of them laying next to each other - her naked, and she assumed him as well - made all that much more sense now. A slight yawn was stifled, and a hand rose to cover her mouth as Aspel noticed Saeed had seemed to wake as well. With that, a slight smile - fond memories of the night before beginning to pick through her head - before opening her mouth. “Good morn.” A beat. “I pray you slept well?” Faram knew she certainly had between the drinking and sex. The night before, to say the least, was worth the heavy slumber and the later morning. He was in that state of between waking and sleeping, where even the slightest movement would wake him. Aspel's body shifting against his was enough to do it. The warm of her skin pressed against him stirred more than just his consciousness, and his arm, draped over her waist, held her closer. "Indeed I had," he said not quite opening his eyes yet and a sleepy smile curling at the edge of his mouth, "It would seem you have as well." His fingers stroked softly over her lower back and his eyes cracked open slowly. He would need to rise soon in order to start his morning meditation. But for now he would stay there, as his own body demanded he lie there a bit longer. He turned to lie on his back, stretching one arm behind his head and looked over at Aspel. It appeared they'd managed to untangle the sheets, though he still felt it knotted around his leg. “I have.” It was a simple response, but the one that honestly made the most sense in a situation as such. The lack of nightmares was refreshing in of itself. With the feel of his fingers, Aspel’s eyes shifted closed again, seeming to simply enjoy the touch. “The wonders a good bit of activity can do for one, no?” Though, something hummed in the back of her mind about the whole situation at hand. They’d known each other for years, and now this. It didn’t need to change their relations at all, and knowing the sort of people they both were it likely wouldn’t, but… It was a change regardless of some sort they would both endure. Even if that change was perhaps - while without commitment - for the better. "Yes," Saeed said softly, "the last few months have felt stagnant or burdened by emotions. It's a nice change of pace." The heavy weight of his father's passing sat over his family for some time until they were each able to take it off. The greeting of friends who he'd left in Emillion was nice, especially since it seemed so warm, and last night had been nice too. It was a good way to feel alive and he would have to thank Aspel for that later. He looked up at the ceiling of his home and spoke, "And much as changed as well. Faces stay the same but there's a different atmosphere in the city than when I left." Not just the reconstruction, but it did feel like the mood shifted somehow. He wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not, the jury was still out. “Ah, that I can understand.” The words were lowly murmured as she shifted, cuddling against him more. Even though the smith knew she ought to rise, to extract herself from his bed, and begin her morning a bit more properly, something still lured her to remained curled up, and… Stay. Once again, he had hit the nail on the proverbial head of what Emillion now was. “It is unfortunate that the change has been so obvious, so…” A pause. “Profound.” Aspel fell silent again. “It seems that change truly is the only constant in the world, and our lives, no?” "Change is inevitable," Saeed said, "some is change we must take upon ourselves to make happen, and other changes are thrust upon us. Sometimes we may resist change and other times we are at its mercy. But you are right, change is a constant. We can always rely on it happening." Both subtle and obvious, change dictated their lives and they could rely on it being there in one form or another. He turned to look at her, shifting his body toward her and letting a hand find a place on the curve of her waist, "You seem changed." Even if they were always flirtatious and friendly before, the very fact she was in this bed with him was a stark contrast to how things were prior to his absence. “Ah, all quite true.” Her words were soft, bordering on an agreed purr, but not quite fully there as a certain thoughtfully withdrawn quality did also remained in her tone. “I suspect I must wonder if it is a thing to be replied upon, or prepared against in some regards.” It was a passive thought. Replying and preparing for were two quite different situations altogehter. One weighed on, the other you weighed against…. Though as he turned towards her, the pensiveness slipped away and her gaze snapped up to meet his, the briefest smile flickering across her lips before his question was asked, and it sat heavily in the pit of her stomach. Finally, her eyes rose to his, a slightly saddened smile being offered as in this moment, it truly was the best she had. “Change is inevitable, no?” A hollow echo of his words just moments before, but… In a sense… Aspel had always known this was coming in some way or another, it was just a matter of when the tides turned. He smirked "Inevitable indeed. Not complaining though. I guess you could say that we all changed quite a bit." The smirk faded to a smile and he breathed out slowly. What changed? He wanted to know but if Aspel wished to discuss, she would have said something. It did give me reason to ponder on the changes he experieced himself, and what he'd just said. Saeed normally embraced change, but losing his father, well, that had been difficult to accept. While he had not seen him in quite some time, he carried many fond memories still. "I believe much has changed for you then," he lifted his hand from her waist to brush some of her hair behind her ear. The sad smile on her face did not go unnoticed and he knew that more recent events left more than just city reconstuction in its wake. He took a chance when he asked, "How are you handling it?" There was a moment bought as Aspel wetted her lips, a queer bit of bashfulness rising up inside of her with his action to clear the hair from her face. “Ah.” A beat, as she mulled over it all. “With much difficulty I fear.” Another pause. “There are many forces in life, and many more that are misunderstood, no?” Maybe she should just spit it out, simply tell him all that had happened, but… As always, there was fear. That deep down gnawing in the pit of her gut that stopped her from doing so much in life, and… Maybe…. Maybe she could ease herself into it, maybe tell him on her way out the door, maybe… “Sometimes, it seems my own fear is likely to eat me whole.” A hard admission, but one Saeed deserved if anyone, especially after all the difficulties they’d both faced as of late, even if their lives were barely connected at all. Saeed nodded his head slowly to her admission. More recent events had affected her and while it'd been a few weeks since they transpired, some things you couldn't just brush off. Some things you carried with you for weeks. Months. Years. Even decades. And then there were some things that burdened you for the rest of your life if you let them. "Fear can silence even the mighty," he said quietly, "but it only consumes if you let it. Fighting it is easier said, but just a little fear is not bad. Not fearing is foolhardy." Every person feared something, but to know that Aspel was afraid of something seemed odd. Even if he said that fearlessness wasn't a good trait, he never saw Aspel as someone afraid. "Are you afraid of something?" he asked then, "There's nothing wrong with being afraid, Aspel. It's what makes us who we are. Our fear should not be the only thing that defines us but it is part of us." Accepting that people can be afraid was a big step in understanding oneself. Fear really had been what had kept her alive this long, what had allowed her life as she knew it to grow and form. Though, in combat her fears seemed.... Well, perhaps she could do without as much fear in her personal life and a little more of it on huge battlefield. "A bit." There was another pause as she attempted to carefully suss out precisely what it was that she was trying to convey. "I do believe fear is reasonable, but there is a certain threshold of fear that seems reasonable. Acceptable. I believe my levels of fear...." Her brows furrowed as she settled against him a bit more comfortably with a shift. "Too high for my own good." |
