Cafe du ciel rose was not a place Red frequented very often, but it was closer to the Vannes estate than a tavern or bar. He was settling for tea, although the thing he desperately wanted in the moment was a glass of wine or three -- something to distract him from the long, harrowing hours he'd just spent in the company of one Ovelia Vannes. He got along with his mother well enough, especially in comparison to his father, but he could only deal with her attitude in small dosages. The recent murder had unsurprisingly been a topic over lunch and Ovelia had unsurprisingly blamed the whole ordeal on the victim. "It's just the sort of thing that happens when one chooses to consort with criminals," she had sniffed, only to follow it up with: "Frankly, darling, I'm concerned about you." It was a wonder Red hadn't ventured down to the wine cellar and cleaned the place out right then and there. It was a pleasant enough day that he was sitting at one of the outdoor tables, with an extravagant menu laid out in front of him. He wasn't terribly hungry, but a hot cup of tea would surely help with his nerves. Redwald slid his cigarette case out from his inside pocket -- sleek, silver, monogrammed -- and pulled out the cigarette he was longing for. He quickly lit it and took a long drag, exhaling a wisp of smoke that snaked its way up in the air. The afternoon sun warmed his shoulders and he found himself settling into a comfortable state of content. There was no need to rush; the rest of his afternoon was clear. Tea and a smoke was exactly what he needed at the moment. |
