Chloë recalled that feeling all too well. As a little girl, people who visited tended to want to bring gifts, or were more willing to give to the young. She left before she became one of those forgotten or pitied. She'd seen it happen to other children and she wasn't going to let that happen to her. Instead she thought Seloria kind for bringing them things and not overdoing it. Orphans also had a bad habit of stealing from each other.
"I can't imagine in what," Chloë said to Seloria's suggestion, "perhaps in some slight of hand, but otherwise I don't believe I have much to offer them." She could read and write, she was good in numbers, but Chloë never really received a proper education. She learned things as she went along. When she visited the children, she wanted them to remember that life could be fun, and it wasn't all that bad.
She looked at Seloria surprised, "Dancing? Me? I don't think I was born with that particular talent. I could not share any gift I don't have. I am sure you teach them well already. I doubt they need someone like me teaching, nor would I be much of a good student." Chloë didn't see all that much thrill in dancing the way others did.
