There had been a moment, as Jareth had dropped Pyr off at Lindwyrm Hall and told him not to move, that Pyr had almost protested. Instead, for the eleventh time, he had said, “You have to find Sky, and get him somewhere safe.” He wanted to help, somehow, but there was nothing he could have done, when fully-trained fighters were struggling to contain the threat. He stayed within the guildhall, checking his communicator every five seconds for news of Sky, Peony, Juliette or Jareth. Every now and then he would receive messages from them letting him know they were safe, but there were still many of his friends he had not heard of, and even those who were safe for the moment might find themselves in trouble again soon enough. His day, then, was spent performing silly magic tricks for the younger squires, trying to distract them from dark thoughts and the way the earth shook periodically, echoing with the rage of the beast by the Tower. He would, from time to time, make trips upstairs to his room in the guildhall to take sweets from the stash under his bed; and it was as he embarked on one such trip that he turned a corner and saw, standing at the other end of the hallway, a perfect copy of himself, with different clothes and covered in bandages. The brownie in his hand was quickly stuffed into his mouth to free his hands and, almost choking in his haste to swallow and speak at the same time, he shouted, “It’s you!” And ran, arms open, to envelop his twin brother. “Pyr!” Sky exclaimed, though he could not run as fast as his brother could -- or at all, really. The healer had only just let him walk around (finally), but even walking by itself was a challenge. Running, yeah, that wasn’t going to happen. But it wasn’t a complaint that Sky was going to dwell on at the moment. Pyr was here. And he was okay. Never mind that Sky knew that last part; seeing him was a whole different thing than being told so. And with that, he let Pyr hug him, returning the embrace, for once not really giving a damn about who saw. |
