Perhaps it was the amount of time away from her station.... Or perhaps it was the obscene hordes of people hustling, and bustling about throughout the entirety of the Founder’s Festival that had caused her to internally fracture, to crack, to break. Though, certainly, it was the faintly whispered promises, the hushed reminders of what could have been, the nightmares of the earth swallowing whole anything that ever gave her problems again…. Perhaps…. She was simply weak. Or maybe, just maybe, it was the presence of the mist that seemed to be seeping into Emillion in the past day that finally had her giving in. Regardless, the woman shifted, attempting to control her walk as best she could, to keep her head up high, shoulders back, chin raised as each step was carefully measured, expertly taken towards the spot where she could finally rest. However, the monster hidden behind her eyes, bonded to her very soul, and torturing her all these many years would have none of that. Her steps stumbled, and a scholar - a child training to be a white mage by the robes - nearly dashed up to her with worry. A tight smile was offered to the child, before with an idle pat to their shoulder they were dismissed. The parasite pushed, and shoved. Reminding the woman of how she’d paid over the years, how she’d struggled in her station, and in her life. Hushed whispers mixed in her head… Releasing the monster those weeks before had been a mistake, she knew that now as its manipulative tendrils could be felt seeping into her soul. Footsteps staggered again, another push of nightmares and regrets made, and a low chuckle emerged from Vivian Xi’s throat as she crossed the threshold into the Mages Guild, and earned herself more than a few strange looks. “The shard.” Her voice croaked, eyes turning wild, and her breathing ragged as she turned towards the Mages Guild Library, moving to enter into it, eyes locked on the Librarian there. “THE SHARD!” The Sage’s barked. “I KNOW YOU HAVE IT!” The shrill shriek as enough to startle all of the library inhabitants from their studies. Hands folded in her lap behind the counter, the Librarian smiled, tense, but managing to remain calm looking none-the-less. “I’m sorry Lady Xi, I don’t know of what you speak.” “YES, YOU DO! YOU KEEP IT FROM ME!” A whoosh of wind whipped through the book stacks, rocking shelves, and whipping papers through the air while ruffling her clothing, and sweeping up her hair. “I’m sorry Lady Xi.” The Librarian started again without missing a beat calmly, but strained, clearly unwilling to change her story, only to be slammed back out of her seat and against the wall with a Aerora spell, her words choked off from the blow as she desperately tried to catch her breath while on her knees. “I’LL FIND IT! I’LL FIND ALL OF THEM IF I HAVE TO RIP EVERY FARAM FORSAKEN LEVEL OF THIS TOWER, AND ALL OF EMILLION APART FOR THEM!” Coughing, the Librarian could taste blood in her mouth as she struggled to breath, to catch her breath as she crawled towards the desk, pressing a button underneath it since Vivian’s attention had turned to the book stacks, eyes scanning over them like a woman possessed. Lights flashed read, a warning siren immediately beginning to magically blare throughout the entire Mages Tower, and the Librarian leaned forward, gasping into a speaker system. “Code Red, The Earth shakes.” With a scream of frustration, Vivian whipped around, turning sharply on her heels before blasting two running guards with a Firaja spell, and incapacitating them immediately as they screamed, falling to the ground in meager attempts to roll on the floor in hopes of not dying by burning to a crisp. “THE SHARD’S HERE! IN THE TOWER! I KNOW IT!” It’s exact location had been kept from her all along. “I’LL GET IT! I’LL BRING HIM BACK! YOU’LL SEE! I’LL CHANGE ALL OF HISTORY, I’LL KEEP EVERYTHING FROM HAPPENING!” Desperation seeped into her voice. “I’LL CLEAN THE WORLD OF ITS WRONGS.” With those words, Vivian lifted from the ground, floating above it, and with a properly administered Wind spell, she quickly zoomed away from the broken bookshelves, the scattered tomes, and the fluttering papers. With each inch she passed, with each person who stood in her way, another section was counted out from holding the Shard, and another body fell dying, or dead with the simplest flick of her wrist. The Sage’s power was truly one that was unparalleled by nearly all who could stand in her way. The person Vivian Xi once was, collected, cool, controlled, stern, measured, and assured, was now gone. The only thing that remained, was a woman driven mad. Gone crazy with her regrets, her sorrows, and a beast that was relentless in its pursuit of destruction, in its manipulation, and slow breaking down - over decades - of a psyche already fragile with woe. Floor by floor was quickly scaled, sections being blown apart before she flew off again, hungrily devouring everything that came through her way if by magic, or sheer mystical force. Vivian Xi was a woman not to be reckoned with on any normal day, today was only that much worse. It would seem no time had passed at all when the Sage finally arrived in her personal floor within the tower, a quickened spell whispered with eyes glazed over caused earth, and rock to cover over all entrances and exits into her own floor. A few precautionary spells slathered onto her person would be the only action taken before windows were blown out - glass falling, and littering the streets far below -, and Vivian would - seemingly - walk on air as she stepped outside of window, floating in place. A low chuckle began initially before it bubbled up into wicked laugh as a hand cut through the air, bringing to life a rumbling, as the ground shook, and broke with the mammoth form of Hashmal - ready to unleash hell upon anyone who approached - rising through the earth to stand on offensive guard the many floors below. “BRING ME THE SHARDS OR ALL OF EMILLION WILL PAY!” Came the screech from atop the Mages Tower, and with the shriek, the monsters of the mist rose seemingly from thin air throughout the entirety of the city at once barring down to attack, and destroy where ever they had arisen in the city just moments before. |
