It might not be the right time, I might not be the right one, But...
Who: Riyeko & Rhys
What: Inventions testing!
Where: A park!
When: Today!
Rating: G!
Status: Complete~!
No matter how much she refined, she tweaked, balanced, calibrated and more, the work Riyeko had put into the rocket legs wouldn’t be worth anything at all if she didn’t test them. Then, she still needed to test it out with the spell expander, which she’d been working to assure could work from small sections of items that contained spells. Though, it was still hard to move and remain balanced with the boots, and the spell expander - even with the size reductions they’d both gotten over time - so a stabilizer for the both would be needed and really, the only thing that made sense would be extending the boots up, and having them help support her body, much like the design she’d been working on Ofelia for, but bigger. This of course, meant that Riyeko had to try them together, to take it all on one of the craziest test drives she’d ever considered before and… Well… She was thrilled. At this point, she’d managed to get the hang of the rocket boots, and with the right bag - not having the expander on her back yet, but stowed away until she was within a location that testing would be safe - the trip on the rocket boots from her house over to the park she frequented in the commoner’s district was easy. Now, the hard part would be trying some trickier maneuvers with the boots before strapping on the item effect expander. That would be the true test of this eve. Rhys was taking in the day. It wasn’t too cold now as they had just started Pisces. Spring would soon be around the corner, or so he hoped. While snow made for an excellent excuse to lay by the fire and use other means of becoming warm, it was also just really cold and he wasn’t much of a fan of cold. The part Ordalia he’d come from had been rather hot in actuality. His first winter in Emillion had been a rude awakening, even with his travels. The troupe only visited lands in the warmer months. He heard an odd sound that he wasn’t familiar with, but what was new in Emillion. The thief looked around to try and identify where the sound had come from, but he couldn’t find the source. Then he looked up and saw the girl flying with her rocket boots. “Now that I haven’t seen before,” he mused to himself with a smile. Riyeko was far too enveloped within the testing of her new project to really notice anything other than what she was doing. Which was both good and bad. Good, because clearly when was one was playing with things that could cause them death if they weren’t careful, and bad because paying too much attention to any one thing could significantly hamper the considerations for what was going on around yourself. Which really, would be her downfall here. Going into a turn, one a bit tighter than she’d ever taken before in order to test the turn ratio, it proved more difficult than not. In fact, near impossible as her balance slipped, sending the boots propulsion blazing off to one side, and Riyeko headed down towards the ground from a good fifteen feet up in the air. A panicked yelp slipped out and she frantically attempted to right herself, but this was proving much harder than not. With all the metal she had on right now, and the position in which she was likely to hit the ground - back first - this was not good, not good at all. Rhys had been watching the flying girl with interest. He didn’t really hang out with machinists, but he supposed he should have. The more he thought about now, he probably should befriend at least one for good measure. While he was used to using older tricks, having a few new ones wouldn’t hurt. It was during this thought, that he heard the sputter of the boots. He hadn’t realized she was really having trouble, believing that perhaps she could right herself. But she continued to fall. And so, he moved just beneath her and caught her...and all the extra wait in his arms, only to fall back onto, luckily the grass, with her. It took him a minute to catch his breath as the weight had knocked the air from him. He would’ve said something witty right about then otherwise. “You,” he coughed, “you alright?” The fall had shaken her, thrown her for a loop. The the initial redirection shouldn’t have been that hard, it was a simple calculation, a matter of angles and… Honestly, Riyeko was wondering if she was going to die at the fall. That was until she hit something - the ground? - and then there was an initial give, prompting another yelp, as she fell further down. Had she broken through the ground? Fingers locked into an iron grip on the first thing they could grasp instinctively without thought or recognition initially, and slowly - oh so slowly - her eyes opened. There was sunlight… And grass… And a voice. Wait a voice? With a quick snap up of her head, Riyeko noticed the man she seemed to… Have landed on top of, and it took a moment longer to realize she was on top of him. “Oh, oh no, oh dear,” Quickly she began to shifting, trying to scramble off of the man in hopes she hadn’t hurt him too badly. “I’m - I’m fine, are- are you okay? Oh dear, I’m so sorry, I didn’t, I didn’t see you there, and I didn’t.” As she moved, managing to roll herself off of him, and onto the grass, a mechanical whirl of gears sprang to life as the exoskeleton adjusted, and the power of the boots - but not the hover pads - sprang to life once more. “I’ve had women fall over me before, never literally on me,” Rhys said as the woman asked after his well-being. At least she was incredibly polite. “I guess I cannot blame you,” he teased easily, before realizing she was still fussing. “I’m alright,” he said, trying to sit up. With a twist he could feel his spine snapping back into alignment. Figuratively, of course, as it had never fallen out of alignment. Thankfully. “Your,” he motioned toward...whatever it was she was wearing, “stopped working. It’s hardly your fault.” Rhys rubbed the back of his neck, turning his head from side to side to get his bearings. “But you should have coffee with me, I think.” She was cute enough, weird contraption aside. The man was talking, at least that was a good sign. There didn’t appear to be any blood from her quickened glances around the area in which they’d landed. At least… None that she could see. Which sent her mind into another series of panic inducing possibilities. “Oh, um, are you sure?” The earlier comments would be intentionally left alone, Riyeko didn’t really know how to handle them, and this seemed the worst time to try to start as well. “Maybe we should get you to a clinic. To be absolutely sure I mean.” Though, his next words were kind, but really, it had been her fault. An over calculation of some sort - user error - had to be the case here, and not just a simple wire shortage. “Oh, um. I mean,” A glance was taken towards a direction of one of the clinics. “will that help? I mean, with how you feel?” Riyeko, forever the clueless. “I am very sure,” he said, finally moving to his feet. “I’ve suffered far worse things than beautiful women falling out of the sky.” Rhys took a moment to shake out his legs, which were fine, but his tailbone was a little sore. He pressed it to check if anything was amiss, but nothing hurt. Just the muscle was a little sore. No sharp jarring pains, he was sure he’d be fine. “You can tell me about what you’re working on and I get to gaze upon your lovely face. I don’t think anything else could make me feel better than that right now.” “Oh, um, I mean,” Riyeko’s body half turned, looking in the direction of a clinic, one arm extending with a hand pointed in the direction of it, even if the clinic wasn’t visable at this point. “it’s just over that way, I” The thought of covering the man’s medical bills flashed across her mind but… Riyeko didn’t really have that kind of money either. “Could show you the way, really, it’s better to get these things looked at.” Though, shifting to look back at him, he seemed rather assured in what he’d said still, and it left her with little more to do than feel awkward. “Oh, um, well, I, um.” What was she to say? If the guy was really that assured of his health, and he had helped to save her from a nasty fall. “I can buy if you’d like.” While she may not be able to afford the clinic, certainly, the machinist could afford to buy them both coffee. Really, it was a cheap price to pay considering how everything had turned out. “There’s a really good place just that way.” With that, Riyeko would gesture in the direction of The Daily Grind, allowing Rhys a moment to absorb her shift in gears before beginning to lead the way. |
