Taking the scroll in her hands carefully, Stone nodded in thanks. “I talked to someone on the network. He offered to teach me for free, and people at the Tower need time to balance their own sh—stuff,” the girl caught herself and corrected, “Especially the ones who gotta teach and study.”
She peered out a window. Was it just her, or had the sun moved? Time had probably advanced by now, meaning it was high past time that she had head home, since after all, Audren would be coming home from school soon. She had been gone during that crucial time for the past few days, and Stone needed to be there for him. Showing proper respect to Thieves Guilders was one thing, but caring for her baby brother was an entirely different ordeal—one that was on a more highly elevated level.
“Thank you very much for the scroll and your nice offer, Madam Vivi, but I really gotta go.” With that, she tucked the scroll beneath one arm, drained the rest of the tea in her cup, set it down on the saucer, and went on her way, nodding once more in thanks.
