What: Bodies found.
Where: The eastern main road to Emillion, outlands.
When: Today.
Rating: R; violence, death, bodies.
With the report of a disturbance along the eastern main road, the nearest Rangers were quickly summoned to the scene to investigate. Unfortunately, by the time of their arrival the local monsters that had been plaguing nearby woodlands had already savagely picked apart most of the bodies. The men and women were dragged from the road and were left scattered carelessly in the ditches and along the drying grasses nearby. It was a grisly conclusion to what decay and exposure to the elements had already started. Fortunately, these victims were not as difficult to identify as some began to fear. Going by the numerous travel papers and business logs found with what remained of their gear, the dead were identified as having once been merchants from Emillion, along with a small group of guards and teamsters hired to transport their wealth of goods through the outlands. The chocobos had been released somewhere in the wilderness however, either victim of the monsters or having simply wandered away into the nearby forests. The carts were still in fair condition, the Rangers noted, but as for the goods themselves, no trace of them remained. The Rangers sought to determine who had killed these travelers and stolen their crates of potions and other medical supplies. The looted goods noted in the inventory ledgers could fetch a high price (more than enough for men to kill for it seemed) and certainly the wagon marks around the road proved that others had taken meticulous care to relieve the dead of all their goods. It was the work of an organized group of thieves, the Rangers determined, but the question remained: did they simply happen upon the dead and filch what they had discovered, or had the bandits plotted their demise as well, coldly premeditating the entire scenario? It left the Rangers with a number of disturbing questions, but their speculations were quickly put to a halt. For the monsters who had feasted on the bodies of the numerous victims still lingered in the area. Little did these creatures know however, that devouring the dead came at a costly price. They had been tainted by some foul disease, and the illness had spread into their bodies, ruining both the flesh and mind. What were already dangerous creatures had now gone mad and vicious. The Rangers had little choice. They needed to clear the area, before any other travelers fell prey to these dangerous beasts as well. |
