[7:00am - Park in the Commoner’s district..] Ratchet always wanted to go running in the morning’s, and before she’d finalized her hoverboard, that actually had been a sort of problem. Mostly, because Riyeko wasn’t a physical person. Years of illness as a child had left her body - to some degrees - still quite fragile regardless of anything she’d tried. Sure, the machinist had tried to go running with her dog, but the problem was, that even though she adopted him when he was a getting on in age a bit, he still managed to have the energy of a dog half his age! Which… Left Riyeko in a bit of trouble sometimes on the exceedingly rare occasion when he got over excited. Thankfully, so far, this was not one of those mornings. Ratchet hurried forward, running a bit ahead but still within a reasonable distance on his leash, and Riyeko maneuvered the board to assure she wouldn’t run into any before calling a stop to Ratchet and landing. Reaching into the bag she’d brought a Frisbee was produced and held up to the dogs expectant eyes. “Wanna play fetch?” [8:30am - The Daily Grind in the Commoner’s district.] A nice hot cup of coffee was grasped between her hands, a bag with a scone hanging between her fingers, as she moved over to the condiment bar. Really, it was one of the best things to warm up with on cold fall - nearing winter - morning’s. Popping open the top of the to go container, three packets of sugar were added to the brew, and mixed in before the machinist would move to relocate outside. Ratchet had been left out there, tied to the leg of a table while she’d ventured inside quickly to snag her drink. “Good boy.” Setting the cup of coffee down and the bagged treat, the hand was brought over to ruffle his fur. “Ready for a treat?” Smiling as she sat down, fingers dug into the bag and broke off a piece of the scone. “Now sit pretty, okay?” [11:00am - Shopping in the Bazaar.] “Oh! Ummm.” Riyeko leaned over the the fish vendor’s stall, a low hum as she considered the options before her. “That one!” A pointed finger indicated the salmon she wished to purchase, and smiling at the man the machinist waited patiently while he pulled the dead fish from the ice it had been packed on for display and wrapped it for her. Handing over her gil, the purchase was complete and the bagged fish was added to the other bags she’d already obtained through her daily shopping spree… Of a sorts. Though, it was probably closer to errands than a ‘shopping spree’ but considering some of the finer items purchased for cooking, she couldn’t help but feel it a bit lavish regardless. Ticking off fingers as she walked away from the stall, consideration was given to what had already been picked up (leeks, ginger, soy sauce, salmon) against what she still needed to get (green onions, miso, sugar, rice noodles, cherry tomatoes) for her grocery list. Letting out a small sigh, Riyeko had to wonder if things would ever get done at this rate. Well, there was only one way to get it accomplished, and that was to keep going! Tightening her grip on the bags, she pressed on, eyes wandering the stalls as she considered what else might go well in the bento’s for lunch. [2:00pm - Leaving the Mages Tower!.] With the bento’s for Peony and Toku delivered, Riyeko was quick to attempt excusing herself from the Mage’s tower. While she hadn’t been able to find either of her targets specifically, it had been easy to get directions as people in the tower knew her from her time with Peony, and the excuse of saying she just had to make a delivery. The fact that she looked like a distressed, lost puppy before that point probably hadn’t hurt her case either. Now though, she was starting to feel terribly anxious, and quite nervous all over again. Somewhere, somehow along her attempt at evacuating the tower, she’d gotten herself terribly turned around. Unfortunately - or perhaps fortunately - the distress was starting to show across her face too. Just how was she supposed to get out of here now? [5:00pm - Near the University of St. Iocus.] It was time for the third round of testing for the rocket boots! With that, she’d strapped them on, suited up in some thicker clothing to help shrug off the potential chill of the evening, or assist in padding against any rough landings and headed out. Starting off was a little rough, but slowly, she was getting it. The launch was a little hard, finding the right balance and bodily positioning each time she started up all the pads always posed a slight problem. Her initial push into the air was hard, all arms flailing, torso shifting, and desperately leaning this way and that to make sure she didn’t turn herself upside down and launch her face right into the dirt. However, when she had that down, flying with them was a dream. The buttons built into the exoskeleton that extended up to her hip made adjusting the pressure in the different pads fairly easy, and the ride was smooth. She’d gone up just high enough to assure she’d fly right by anything that could be on the taller side, while still staying far below dragons that might be flying over head, or any particularly strong wind currents that could knock her for a loop. Though, landing was even harder than taking off. Riyeko knew if she kept at it, kept trying, that eventually she’d get it just right. Tonight was not that night. Leaning forward just a little too much on the descent caused her center of balance to shift too far, and the Rocket boots started to rapidly propel her forward. Yelping in shock and startelement, fingers desperately sought the control pads, and slamming against them caused the rockets to short out. “Oh no.” Was all she was able to gulp before she plummeted the next ten feet down at an angle. Thankfully, since she’d spliced the hover pads in with the Dragoon Jump boots she’d made before, there was some absorption of the impact, but unfortunately not enough as she landed just outside of one of the main buildings of the university, and frantically attempted to run to catch her balance. However, she’d have no luck with such tactic tonight. Riyeko’s arms flailed out, trying to help save her in body in some way (though there was no hope for her dignity at this point), but she was doomed from the start as she went crashing to the ground on a patch of grass. |
