As soon as he finished training for the day, Pyr ran up to his room in Lindwyrm Hall and threw some changes of clothes and the candy box into his bag. No time to grab anything else; he needed to be away from the guildhalls as soon as possible, just in case Juliette was hanging around somewhere. He made his way toward the Cathedral avoiding the main thoroughfare, taking a detour through narrow streets no one ever passed through. All those evenings exploring Emillion had served him well; he knew those alleys like the back of his hand, having used them a few times before to dodge pursuit after a prank. Now he was running from something far scarier than an affronted merchant. Since Sky had been assigned to train with the Fighters’ Guild a couple of days a week, Pyr had been waiting for the other shoe to drop. And now it had, in the worst possible way, and though Pyr knew he couldn’t hide from the consequences forever, well, he was willing to try. Storm had apologised for his blunder, and really there was nothing else either Pyr or Sky could do, other than pray like they never had before that the shitstorm would pass them by. Once he neared the Cathedral, he had no option but to exit into the main street. He climbed the steps at a run, looking over his shoulder to check Juliette wasn’t around, then darted inside the Cathedral and asked for directions to the acolyte’s area. He explained he was visiting Storm, and he was led to his friend’s room. The moment he was inside, he heaved a sigh of relief. Safe. For the moment. “Hey, Storm,” he greeted, and dropped his bag at the foot of the bed. The room was small, but Storm had said he didn’t mind having Pyr over, and Pyr had to exploit every asset at his disposal. Even if he did, who knew if it would be enough? “Thanks for letting me hide here.” |
