Lester knew that something was wrong. People didn't just appear out of nowhere--and yet he never saw any of them actually coming off of the ferries that brought the semi-weekly order of supplies over from the mainland. Monsters did not exist, except in the form of men whose minds and actions were so twisted beyond what was morally and/or socially acceptable that their 'humanity' was nearly unrecognizable--and yet talk was rampant among the 'patients' here of demons and other fantastic creatures straight from the pages of myth. He had never seen so many cases of shared delusions. Time travel was impossible, and yet, the newspaper claimed that it was now the 21st Century. There was just so much that he could not explain.
Such as the appearance of a certain name in his files. Teddy Daniels. He knew that Teddy Daniels was merely a fabrication of the man, Andrew Laeddis, whom he had treated on Shutter Island. This place reminded him very much of Ashecliff, if he were to be hypothetically transported several decades into the future, but it was not Ashecliff. He wondered if his failure to progress with Laeddis' treatment had caused him to have a mental breakdown of his own, and if all this were the product of some psychotic episode, brought on by grief and stress. But he couldn't afford to think like that. Not if there was any possibility that Teddy Daniels--Andrew Laeddis--still needed his help.
