Don't Let It Fool You
Who: Wes & Scorpius
What: Failing at Transfiguration
Where: The outside stone courtyard

Rats!
Literal, furry, black, worm-tailed rats. A lot of them.
Well that wasn't what Wes had intended the spell to do at all! The task was to transfigure a bowl of apples into a cage of doves. A little complicated, but dammit this was N.E.W.T level now! Wes had assumed if he could master the difficult stuff first, then the rest would be a doddle! Well, it was one theory at least. Having given up trying the homework from his last lesson Wes had just decided to throw himself on something hard.
At least the rats were alive though...it was close enough right?
He jumped up off the wall as the rats leapt from the bowl (which had changed from glass to wood...odd) and made a run for it across the courtyard where he'd opted to practice his magic alone. Transfiguration to be exact. His worst subject. Why the hell had he taken this at all?
"Stupefy!" He called, tugging his wand from his pocket to zap the nearest rat with a stun spell as they fled around his feet. Last this he wanted was to be blamed for an infestation at the school!

Scorpius let out a short and loud laugh, about to tell Wes exactly what hilarious meant when the spell hit him and he suddenly couldn't stop laughing long enough to make out any words.

What Scorpius was thinking was something along the lines of; You Gryffindor bastard! I am going to end you, and it will not be fast! I am going to inflict a world of pain on you when you least expect it! You are both more ugly and more obnoxious than James Potter!

What came out was a series of strangled laughs and body convulsions.

But, there was one spell Scorpius remembered was easy to get out while laughing- it almost sounded like a laugh itself.

"Ta...Tarantallegra!" He burst out, the charm was starting to ware off but he was still fighting for control, and couldn't focus to see it his dancing spell hit it's mark.

Wes was smiling broadly as Scorpius dissolved into giggles. Something so satisfying about seeing your opponant crippled with one of your spells. Assuming him to be entirely incapacitated with the tickling, Wes walked towards Scorpius with every intention of casting a spell directly into his face. Something strong enough to make him as unattractive as possible. What Wes hadn't been counting on was the fact that Scorpius had a jinx he could choke out whilst laughing. The lanky Gryffindor attempted to dodge to the left but Scorpius' spell caught his arm regardless. Wes' long legs took to a life of their own, dancing like mad to their own crazy unheard rhythm.

Wes tried desperately to control himself in vain. He hated dancing at the best of times and this was most certainly not the best time. In a futile attempt to get his revenge he pointed his wand in scorpius' direction (moving around far too much to aim properly) and shouted, "Furnunculus!" The spell burst from his wand as his body jerked to the right, sending the spell straight over Scorpius' head. It caught the edge of the courtyard wall, chipping the brick where it hit. Damn, missed!

Scorpius finally manged to shake of the spell, but he was still laughing. Luckily, this was a far less painful laugh; not the product of any charm put simply at the enjoyment of watching Longbottom flail about the courtyard in some bizarre version of a dance.

He stepped to the side as Longbottom cast his next spell, though it was an obvious miss, and a bit of a worried look passed over his face when he saw the damage it did to the wall. That could have been his beautiful face! He hastily added boils to his mental list of things he hated, just below rats

Unwilling to put himself at risk for any more of those type of spell, Scorpius took advantage of the Gryffindors inability to aim and cast one more spell; the "Locomotor Mortis" was aimed at his wand arm trying to prevent Wes from casting any more spells, but aiming was a bit hard when he wouldn't stay still!

"Damn it, Longbottom!" He hissed, "Boils are no laughing matter! Think of what pain you would be putting the females of this school through by damaging my fine physic!" He marched up to his opponent and reached forward.

Granted Wes was quite considerably taller than Scorpius himself, but the blond was doing his damned best to grab a handful of brown hair and pull</u>.

Wes just managed to mutter 'Finite Incantatem' against himself when Scorpius' spell caught his arm, grazing it and causing it to snap taut against his side, his fingers closing tightly around his wand. He was gripping so hard he couldn't pull it free with his un-cursed hand. Damn! That was a dirty move in Wes' book!

"Shit," He mumbled, struggling with himself just before Scorpius caught his hair, "Argh! Gerroff!" He bent over, following Scorpius' hand as it tugged because he had no real choice. The slytherin had a good handful of his hair and it hurt! He caught Scorpius' wrist with his hand and squeezed hard, trying to get him to release his grip. This was cheating or against the rules or something horrifically unfair! Then again, Slytherin. Should he have expected anything less?

"Seriously Malfoy, get GO!" He snarled, glaring at Scorpius, his wand-hand still glued to his side. This was a remarkably vulnerable situation for him, and Wes didn't like it one bit! He flicked his eyes to Scopius' wand, wondering how easily he could snatch it from the blond boy's hand.

"Make me, Longbottom!" Scorpius barked in triumph even as Wes tried to tear his hand away. Not much he could do, really, unless the Gryffindor wanted a bald-spot at seventeen!

He stumbled back a few steps, almost tripped, but brought his free hand around to grip Longbottom's shoulder to keep himself from falling, though he may have been bending the poor boy's head at a rather uncomfortable angle. Too bad Scorpius wasn't the apologetic type.

At this point Scorpius had, to the everlasting shame of his magical blood, more or less forgotten about his wand and was taking a primal pleasure in fighting with his hands- something that he had hardly ever done before. "Submit!" He demanded, grinning like something of a fool as he tilted his head down to look Wes in the eye "Surrender!"

He then vaguely wondered, now that their faces were so close, if biting the other boy's nose would be unhygienic...

Wes growled as he was tugged awkwardly. He couldn't wriggle free at all, Scorpius had far too good of a hold of his hair. Tears pricked the corners of his eyes as it was pulled again, his head twisted back to face his tormentor. Wes briefly considered spitting in his face, but his attention was quickly snapped to Malfoy's wand clutched in his hand on Wes' shoulder. Easy target! He flicked his eyes to meet the Slytherin's and his mouth twisted into a wry smile, "I'd rather suck a bubotuber."

Wes stuck his tongue out, as if he had the intention of licking Scorpius' face (though he'd never consider actually doing such a thing), just to distract him, to make him move back enough so Wes had a clear shot. He released his tormentor's wrist and reached over, grabbing the wand above Scorpius' grip, and twisted it down to face its owner as best he could. It was an awkward position the two of them were getting tangled in now. He already knew what spell he wanted to use, however. It couldn't be something that could blast Scorpius away from him, because Wes just didn't want to risk losing a chunk of his hair, but he'd already had his stroke of inspiration.
"Aguamenti!" He commanded, not sure if Scorpius' wand would respond.

Scorpius started back a step, one more almost loosing his balance in the struggle. "Disgusting!" he growled, trying to steady his stance again "Merlin only knows the horrible placed that tongue has been!" Perhaps ironic, it was Scorpius disgust for Gryffindor cooties that brought about his downfall. He heard his own first spell echoed back at him and rapidly shut his eyes as the burst of water came jetting out at him.

Sopping wet, and his blond hair running into his eyes and blinding him, Scorpius had no choice but to release his hold on his opponent. "Bloody-" He kept his grip on his wand, but stumbled backwards and slipped on a puddle of spell water- and, in an embarrassing turn of events, Scorpius dropped suddenly onto his ass, sitting in a wet spot.

"Gryffindor bastard!" He muttered, trying not to sulk. He launched out one arm, going for Wes's legs and trying to trip the other boy down to the ground as well.

It was , after all, it touch less humiliating to be floored if you weren't the only one.

Wes let go of Scorpius' wand as his hair was freed, backing away from the wet, angry Slytherin to avoid getting soaked or possibly punched. He stood with a smug smile as Malfoy fell. Oh that was satisfying! He opened his mouth to say something about how karma was a bitch, and maybe some kind of derogatory remark about Slytherin as a whole when a hand grabbed his leg. He wasn't expecting it at all, and with his wand arm still stuck to his side, Wes didn't have a lot of balance. With a cut-short cry of, "Son ova-" Wes fell heavily onto his arse opposite Scorpius.

The sudden shock of pain seemed to exhaust the curse on him and his arm sprang free. He didn't, however, instantly lift his wand against his opponent. Instead, after a groan of pain, he looked up at the slytherin boy and began to smile, and then, he couldn't help himself, he began to laugh. He wasn't just laughing at Scorpius, but at both of them, damp and bedraggled and sitting in puddles in the courtyard.
"You look ridiculous," He giggled, glancing at Scorpius' wet, dripping hair in amusement.

"Oh shut up." Scorpius huffed, flicking a bit of water from his fingertips at Wes. But really he couldn't help laughing just a bit at the entire situation. Somehow the two boys had gone from a bad transfiguration mistake to being sprawled out, sore and soaking wet, in the middle of the courtyard.

He flicked his sopping hair out of his eyes and couldn't seem to entirely quell the ridiculous grin that was taking over his face. "A glorious duel between rival houses." Scorpius decided in pompous tones that didn't quite match his laughing eyes. "This shall go down in the history books!"

Wes leaned away from the tiny droplets tossed his way and poked his tongue out. He was grinning equally wide, unable to shake the smile from his face. Though he had managed to suppress his laughter.
"Oh yeah, definitely," He agreed with a nod of approval, "Move back Battle of Hogwarts, this needs a chapter of its own in Hogwarts: A History. People will be telling this story for years." He tiled his head gently, eyes sparkling, admiring the look on Scorpius' face. One he'd never seen before. A Gryffindor summoning that kind of mirth in a Syltherin didn't happen very often at all.

Finally, Wes pulled himself off the floor, unleashing a small string of curses under his breath at the pain in his backside. Oh yeah, that was going to be a bruise for sure. He dusted off his behind and offered his hand to help Scorpius up. An act of goodwill perhaps? Or possibly just good manners. Wes wasn't famous for either really.

"Possibly we can leave out the part where the cunning Slytherin landed on his ass..." Scorpius mused, his face might have looked thoughtful but the beads of water still running down from his hair rather spoiled the effect. "I don't think that bit would impress the grandchildren."

When Wes offered his hand, Scorpius did not immediately react. Did he want help from a Gryffindor? But he was sore, and wet, and bit a tired from the whole ordeal and finally decided to give in and accept aid.

Scorpius reached up and took Wes's hand very firmly, not allowing for any Gryffindor tricks that might involve letting go and causing him to fall back to the ground.

"Of course I'll tell them the bit when I cleverly tripped you, but that's different!" Scorpius smiled.

"Yeah, I figured as much," Wes rolled his eyes and tugged Scoripus firmly up onto his feet, no intention of dropping him. He was equally sore though not quite as damp. Pissing the Slytherin boy off again was something Wes didn't fancy doing.

"I'm guessing you turn out the winner in your version huh?" Wes scoffed with a smirk, "Well, at least do me a favour and leave out the bit where I fucked up the transfiguration yeah?" He nudged an unconscious rat with the toe of his boot before sighing. He waved his wand and mumbled, "Evanesco." The rats vanished, hiding most of the evidence that Wes had messed up, though there were still the odd couple now running around in the school somewhere. Oh well, Mrs Norris would probably catch them...
He shrugged his shoulders and nudged Scorpius playfully, apparently easily forgetting the rivalry they had not ten minutes ago, "Don't worry though, when I tell it I'm not going to leave out the part where you get sprayed in the face so I think we're even."

"Well, of course. The handsome one always wins." Scorpius pointed out, running a hand through wet blond hair and pretending that he didn't look utterly ridiculous. Of course, Wes wasn't a bad looking bloke himself but Scorpius would hardly have admitted such a thing out loud. The usually shameless Slytherin only flirted when he felt he had the upper hand in a situation, and this was hardly one of those times.

"Well, Longbottom." Scorpius gave him a considering look, searching for the right words, "It's been- bizarre." He slipped off his dripping outer robes and tried to wring them out a bit: the muggle clothes he wore beneath were plenty damp as well, but he would rather not leave a trail of water behind him as he returned into the castle.

"Obviously I'd kiss you goodbye, but I already told you I don't trust that mouth of yours." He threw a smug smirk.

Wes rolled his eyes and let Scorpius have that one, choosing not to argue. The two of them could've easily bickered over who was the better looking. Fact of it was they were both pretty hansome, and Wes would've had no problem admitting that (except not to Scorpius' face, because he had the funniest feeling he wouldn't have never, ever heard the end of it!).

Wes leaned back against the nearest wall and watched Scorpius taking off his robes, biting his tongue to prevent himself tossing out a little quip about getting a free strip-tease. Bizarre was an understatement. They'd gone from vaguely disliking each other to downright hating each other, to practically-friendly acquaintances in the space of an hour. He couldn't help but return the smirk at Scorpius' last comment and almost contemplated leaping forwards to plant a kiss on the unsuspecting Slytherin.
"Never on the first date Malfoy," He replied with a teasing tip of his head, moving his hair out of his eyes, "Maybe next time if everything goes well huh?" He winked cockily.

"Brush your teeth a couple times first and well see." Scorpius replied agreeably enough. "Maybe make it four...just to be safe."

Satisfied that he had done the best he could, Scorpius put his arms back into his wet robes, without doing up the front. Dominique had given him this weeks Prefects password and so he was planning on taking a nice long soak to make sure the February air didn't get him sick.

With a small almost salute, Scorpius said a quick "Cheers." and turned back to go inside. It was bloody freezing! Somehow he hadn't really noticed it before just now.
