Who: Scorpius and Polly
What: Having a smoke and debunking a rumor.
Where: Slytherin Common-Room / Boy's dormitory
When: Monday evening, after dinner
Rating: TBA
Status: INcomplete

Scorpius had really been keeping to himself the last week or so, not so much hiding out as making it known to everyone he did not appreciate being stared at in his own House...even if he was burning a pile of bloody clothes in the middle of the stone floor. They had been the clothes he was wearing when he found Lysander's body and he had hardly wanted to keep them around. So why shouldn't he have burnt them? What business was that of anybodies? But here it was, a week later, and people were still glancing frantically back and forth between Scorpius and the small black stain on the floor.

"You people are so plebeian." Scorpius announced to the room as a whole, sweeping it once over with a rather bored expression as he took his usual seat on the sofa by the fire. (Take, being the operative word, as there was a third year occupying it before he shooed them away)

He piled his books haphazardly on the floor beside himself- some part of him intended to study tonight, but it wasn't exactly what one would call an urgent desire.

Scorpius reached out and took her hand in a familiar gesture, though he hardly used her support as he rose to his feet- little thing that was was! "I suppose that sounds fair enough...Since I'm feeling particularly benevolent tonight." He consented, absently leaving their hands attached as he crossed the commonroom and ascended the stairs to the sixth year boy's dorm room.

Once there, he threw open the large window beside his own bed and perched himself on the sill, holding his wand up, ready to light, as he reached to take the promised cigarette from Polly.

"I am going to ask you a question." Scorpius began, trying to keep his tone grave despite his laughing eyes. "And if you value my sanity at all you will answer with a resounding 'no'."

Polly was pleased he would take a cigarette as payment but she had not assumed he was serious about the comment anyway. She walked with him looking up at him every now and then as she walked towards the dorms. If it had been anyone else Polly might have noticed or questioned the fact their hands were still together.

As they entered the dorm she looked at the bed pondering just flopping on it and watching Scorpius smoke, but she knew that as soon as she smelt him smoking she would need one of her own. She moved to lean on the sill and looked at Polly.

“Okay speak,” she said handing the cigarette and collected one of her own from the pocket of her skirt. Unfortunately she was going to have to rely on Scorpius for a light and placed it between her lips and leaned forward almost expectantly.

After lighting up himself, Scorpius turned his wand toward Polly and whispered a brief spell to ignite her smoke. Then he paused for a moment, both too take a drag and to feed his love for the dramatic.

Scorpius exhaled but, rather than speaking he reached over to his bedside table and grabbed his journal out of the top drawn, un-charmed it and quickly flipped through the leafs until he found the page filled with inane gossip in an overly dramatic scrawl.

"Please." He insisted, pointing to one line in particular and holding it under Polly's nose. "For the love of Salazar and Merlin, tell me you are not actually sleeping with a Hufflepuff."

After Scorpius lit the cigarette she took in a long deep breath before leaning out the window to blow the smoke out. She looked back over at Scorpius waiting for this so called question that he had been meaning to ask her. She watched as he leaned over for something she had to assume was his journal.

A smile spread across her lips as she started to laugh. She rolled her eyes and looked out the window as she continued to laugh. “No.” Polly looked back over to Scorpius. “I have not been sleeping with a Hufflepuff.” She paused for a moment and took a drag before blowing the smoke back out. “I thought you were going to point out my own journal entry where I said I would.” Polly laughed a little more. “Something I don’t intend to follow through with of course.” Polly still continued to laugh a little as she looked at Scorpius.

She took a drag from her cigarette again and then blew the smoke out the window again before leaning a little closer to him. “What are you a little jealous?” A smirk was on her face as she leaned back to her current position.

"I saw that too, and was duly horrified." Scorpius pointed out in response, a clear expression of distaste on his face, and he snapped his journal closed in a motion of disgust. He took a moment to aim his own smoke out the window and into the night air before returning his disapproving eyes to Polly.

"Less jealous, and more disgusted at the very idea of one of my housemates lowering their standards so much!" He clarified, but he was smiling a bit now. Scorpius had always claimed an anti-Hufflepuff prejudice, but in all honestly he didn't care enough about most of them to really be set against them.

Just Nox. Scorpius truly could not stand that boy.

"I would have had to question your already dubious sanity!"

Polly chuckled again as he snapped the journal closed. Polly tapped some of the ash out the window and watched it fall before looking back to Scorpius. "Don't worry I don't intend to sleep with him ever," Polly spoke and caught her lower lip trembling as she spoke. Polly hated when she lied to people she actually liked, yet she often did it. Polly knew she was lying because the thought of sleeping with Nox had passed through her mind. She wasn't so sure if she wanted Nox to be the first person though.

"What was that about my dubious sanity?" She questioned looking at him a little annoyed. "I am quite sane." She took another drag of her cigarette and blew the smoke out the window again.

Scorpius turned a doubtful look on his housemate, as far as he was concerned anyone who could tolerate that Hufflepuff for more than five full minutes without hexing him even once was at least borderline neurotic.

"I'll be watching you, Pucey" he threatened. The characteristic laugh was still lighting up his eyes but if Polly knew Scorpius at all she would know that he liked to know things...and the warning was not an idle thing. He would be looking out for any signs that Polly was allowing herself to be swayed to what Scorpius unequivocally thought of as "the dark side" or, perhaps more accurately, "the obnoxious git, and not even in a clever or charming way, side."

“Watching me?” Polly raised an eyebrow as she took another drag and blew the smoke out the window. She tipped the ash off the edge of her cigarette before putting it out on the sill and then letting it down from the window. Of course it didn’t go far being that they were in the dungeons anyway. "That's a little stalkerish." Polly finished her train of thought with a laugh.

“So you are worried that I will be seduced by a Hufflepuff?” She raised her eyebrow at him. “I think you might just be jealous.” She joked as she moved from the window sill and sat down on his bed. “So since you have the question out of the way what else would you like to do?”

"Slytherin." He returned casually; a go-to explanation for any questionable activity in Scorpius' book.

Flicking the butt of his smoke out the window, Scorpuis turned toward Polly and gave her a smirk. "Not a chance," He declared...which could have been taken as the answer to either one of her questions, really. "You've put the burden of plan on me already, if you can't think of anything you'd like to do, I'm happy to return to my scintillating essay on the protective properties of Dragon Hide."

Okay, to not perfectly happy. His smirk dropped slightly into a frown as he spoke, but eventually it was a project he would have to finish.

"Slytherin, that is your only answer?" Polly rolled her eyes like being a Slytherin could dismiss his stalkerish and watchful activities. He was just being a pain in the butt and that was not just classified to only Slytherins.

"Happy to return to your essay? Are you sure you not ill? Perhaps we should take you to the hospital wing." Polly said with a concerned look on her face as she leaned closer to him. A smirk replaced the concerned look quite quickly.

"Well since we have already done the smoking thing," Polly said lying back on his bed and looking at Scorpius. "What else is there for us to do?" She mused on it for a moment before sitting back up again. "We could go for a walk? See what we can get up too?" Polly just didn't want to go back to be alone and bored.

"No," he laughed, "That isn't my only answer! I could add 'Malfoy' to the mix as well" And, honestly, was there anything left for a Malfoy to do that would surprise anyone? If there was, then Scorpius was doing it just by being so careless about everything.

"A walk would be...acceptable." Scorpius nodded thoughtfully. Like he was going to let finding dead bodies in the halls keep him from wandering in the night! Well...actually, it probably would keep him from that- but right now it was just evening, and the light hadn't even faded from the sky.

Polly just shrugged her shoulders as he replied with another answer. "I suppose that is a good enough answer." Polly weakly chuckled as she got up from the bed as he said that a walk would acceptable. Polly figured it was better than just sitting around doing nothing at all. Plus walking with someone else was a good idea considering the events that had taken place at school.

"Then a walk it shall be." Polly slipped her hand back into his and started to walk backwards out of the dorm. "Any location in particular you wish to go?" Polly didn't mind if they went outside or just roamed the halls, course the former would probably provide more entertainment than roaming the halls.

"Outside." He stated, allowing her to lead him by the hand out of Slytherin and into the cool stone corridors. Who wanted to wander around boring hallways anyway? Who wanted to wander around dimly lit blood-stains hallways? He could have asked either question, but kept both silent.

"Let's go down to the lake and throw things at the squid." Scorpius laughed out loud, remembering that it was something he used to do back in first year when he had never seen the squid and had been eager to catch a glimpse of it. "Maybe if we're lucky it will get angry and drag you under. That would be exciting!"

Outside it would be then. Polly walked along the corridors with Scorpius, her hand loosely connected with his. She turned to Scorpius and shook her head. "No Scorpius that would not be exciting, more like horrific." Polly did not like the sounds of the squid dragging her under. "It would be much more amusing if he dragged you under." Polly smirked as she navigated them out a door and into the outside world with fresh air.

"If you promise not to agitate the squid to such lengths as it wants to drag us in I suppose we can go to the lake." Polly shrugged her shoulders as she started to walk in the direction of the lake. She highly doubted the squid would drag either of them in, but what if.

"Hmm, I'm not sure." Scorpius mused, "I like to think of myself as something of an expert of humor and it has always seemed to be that when other people hurt themselves it's funny, but when I get hurt it's pure tragedy."

He lifted his chin slightly as though he had just bestowed a gem of wisdom upon his housemate, but the smile tugging at his lips mostly ruined the effect.

"So you laugh at other people's pain and we cannot laugh at yours?" Polly looked at him and sighed. "You know that is very hypocritical of you Scorpius Malfoy." Just as she had started to say the name Malfoy she felt her feet hit something, most likely her own feet or a rock she had not seen. She herself fall forward and instinctively she held one hand out to stop her fall but gripped on tighter to Scorpius' hand to stop the fall.

The fall did stop for Polly as she felt her knees hit the ground as they had done time and time again. "Fucking bloody hell." She shouted as her fall finished and she found herself on the ground.

Who did laugh when they were hurt themselves? That would be like cheering at a lost quidditch match...unless you were Scorpius Malfoy for whom a loss often meant monitary gain, of course.

Scorpius had been about to shrug, as though being a hypocrite was not something he was concerned about, when he was suddenly tugged forward.

Under normal circumstances Polly would not have had the weight, nor the force, to pull down Scorpius if he were determined to stay upright, but at it was he was caught entirely off guard, and he got tangled somewhat in her falling legs and lurched forward. Still, he didn't topple all the way, but had to put one knee down to catch himself against the pressure of their connected hands- merlin, but she had a firm grip!

He smirked down at Polly as she swore loudly. "What? Why aren't you laughing?"

Once on the ground with no way of reclaiming her original stance she finally let go of Scorpius’ hand, which she realized she had a vice like grip on. She looked at him as he spoke and gave him a forced smile. “Funny,” she said sarcastically as she rolled over and dusted off her knees. She looked up at Scorpius and shook her head. “Why the blood hell would I laugh at my own pain and embarrassment?” At least she had not flashed Scorpius, or at least she hoped she hadn’t.

“I don’t laugh at my own pain, but I am more than willing to laugh at yours.” Polly said as she remained sitting on the ground looking over at Scorpius. “I suppose I should start laughing at myself as I end up like this more than I would like.” At least there was not far to go, she added in on in thought but would rather not draw attention to her extremely small stature.

Scorpius tilted his head back and gave a rather loud laugh. Watching Polly be clumsy never got old- Scorpius laughed every single time. But, as they were friends, he did hold out a hand to help her back to her feet; something he would not have done for most.

"Are you going to be alright, or should I just carry you the rest of the way to prevent disaster?" he grinned.

Polly took his hand as she lifted herself up to her feet. She dusted off her behind and looked at Scorpius with a bit of a death glare. As he talked about carrying her she had a flash back of when Nox had carried her, which left her with a rather conflicted feeling.

"I am going to be just fine." She looked over at him with an annoyed look. "Unless you have the burning urge to carry me." Polly looked at him not particular sure which choice he would take.

Of course, if Scorpius had known that Nox had been the last person to pick Polly up he would have let her be and thus avoided all possibly comparisons but, and perhaps it was better that he didn't know, he laughed again and reached down to put his arms around Polly's legs and in a quick but gentle movement tipped her easily over his shoulder. She was, after all, an eminently scoopable size. It was always impossible to not pick her up.

"Now," he declared, speaking slowly and enunciating each word, "I won't have to wait for the squid to make the first move to get you in the water!"
