Who: Claire and Wes
What: Talking
When: Saturday... morning
Where: by the lake
Rating: R?

Things between them had been strained. The recent revelation (or supposed) from Quin that he'd been raped by Wes had made it even more so -- from Claire's side of the relationship, in any case. Not knowing what to do (how was one supposed to react with the news that her best friend might have forced themselves upon someone else?), say, behave, she'd tried to keep things as normal until she finally sorted things through. Ordinarily-- Well, ordinarily she wouldn't have had to have asked. But with recent events and secrets being found out, there were definitely some trust issues going on. And no matter how much it made her hate herself, she couldn't help but wonder if there was some truth to Quin's words.

His touches, in the beginning, had made her stiffen slightly. She'd remained sitting next to him in classes, at meals. But she was quiet, introverted, thinking. Anyone else would've blamed it on her father and his condition, but she wasn't sure what Wes thought.

It was hard, decidedly so, being caught in that catch 22. Torn and ripped apart by your own logic and conscience. She wanted to be near him, all the time, to talk and laugh and joke like they used to. But things were different; he was too quiet and watchful, downtrodden after the week before. And she hated it. It made her feel claustropohic and breathless. She worried that he might see right through her, what she was thinking, and that would be the end of it.

But this was exhausting, and she wasn't one to brood. So she'd made her way over to the lake, harried, determined. She just needed to think things through for a bit longer. Make sure she knew how this was going to go, what she was going to say, what he could possible say (What if he admitted it? Denied it? Tried to reason with her? Was there ever an excuse?) The day was glorious, bright and clear, though the bite of winter's chill still hovered near the icy water. She sat herself down near the edge, running a hand over her face in frustration. Things had better start looking up soon or she was going to think she'd been cursed.

"Anywhere," He replied before he could stop himself. He rolled his eyes and kissed her again before leading her towards the school, towards the greenhouses. Somewhere private for the two of them. Private and warm. Of course he would default to his greenhouse, but really, it was his, it was private and right there he wanted to be alone with her, safe from being stumbled upon.
He led the way through the leafy tunnel into the messy, green, weed-scented greenhouse.
"This ok?" He asked, as if she hadn't been there before. As if she was expecting more than lumpy cushions and full ashtrays and empty bottles. Butterfly origami fluttered lazily over the ground under Wes' foot as he made his way to a cushion. He frowned but shrugged it off, there were plenty more origami critters where that had come from. "C'mere," He smiled.

She'd expected him to take her here. It was the ideal place for the pair of them to be alone, away from gossiping mouths and curious eyes. All of that rubbish could wait. No doubt it wouldn't be long before the gossip witch made this news known across the school.

Picking her way after him over the cushions, she looked up at the question, smiling. "Perfect," she murmured, moving into his arms. Closing her eyes, she let herself just take everything in for a moment. Her arms were wrapped around his waist, head against his chest. She could hear his heartbeat, feel his chest move with his breaths. It felt normal, ordinary, comfortable. "Is this weird?" she asked quietly, not particularly wanting to move her head to look up; just here was nice. "Should this be weird?"

"Why should it be weird?" Wes replied, taking her to a cushion so they could lay together. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and, after a moment of smiling at the fact she was happily hugging him, thought about how nasty and cold his bum was in his damp jeans.
"It's just us Cee," He said softly, "You'n'me. Don't make it weird and it won't be weird ok?"

"Mm, no, I'm not," she answered, moving her head against his chest. There was a place, near his neck, that she could tuck her chin into. She'd chanced upon it, the perfect fit, the other week when she'd stayed in his bed, had settled herself there for a while once he'd fallen asleep.

It didn't take long, and she was still, one hand on his chest as she curled herself against him. "I just-- I thought that it might be, you know?" A smile, and she dragged her finger over his shirt, small nonsensical patterns. "I was worried that it might be. But it's not."
