Who: Art and Claire
What: Venting out some personal differences
When: Sunday Evening
Where: Empty Classroom
Rating:

Originally they were meeting for Herbology tutoring, but Claire had been terribly odd lately it was starting to freak Art out, and she was even wondering the girl would show up. Art was never one for social skills, great with boys, and shitty with mates, but Claire was usually well laid back, that's why they got along so well.

Art was quite puzzled but she decided to wait and see. So she sat at the corner, and took out her newest obsession, Shakespeare, not exactly new, but it was exciting to say the least, and it was comforting to read such a master. She buried her head through the pages of <i>Otelo</i> letting the master of world envelope her mind apart from immediate trouble, was she in trouble? She didn't even know, so far all signs said yes.

Tic Tack, now it was all left to Claire.

Claire had asked for this extra tutoring session out of sheer desperation. Her Herbology workload was starting to get the better of her, and had led to her staying behind after class on Thursday afternoon to ask Professor Longbottom some questions she had about the course work. This, in turn, had let to the Professor asking her some rather uncomfortable questions about her relationship with Wes -- most of which she'd avoided with the company of a rather furious blush.

But there was still quite a bit of her essay to complete and there were a couple of things she was having trouble with. Even though she'd managed to make it to the library this afternoon, running into Wes had put paid to most of her brain power and it wasn't until she'd gotten out of there and into the comfort of her dorm that she'd been able to knuckle down and get churn out something resembling what had been requested of her.

Still, it was hard to write about something when you had pieces of knowledge missing, and that was why she was making her way to the designated classroom -- even though, truth be told, on a personal level, Art was near the bottom of her list of people she wanted to see right now. She hadn't needed to see the gossip (or hear it) to know that Art and Wes had spent a night together. Art had shot her mouth off about it before (Claire suspected) Wes had even finished his orgasm. But what surprised her the most about the entire event was her own reaction - anger, indignation, disappointment. Not jealousy, of course. What was there to be jealous about? She could, and did, have Wes anytime she wanted. But Claire felt like some sort of line had been crossed. Art was one of Claire's closest friends and now it was like she'd been deceived. Though, really, Wes could sleep with whomever he chose -- who was she to tell him otherwise?

Art tilt her head when she heard the echo of steps approaching the classroom, the castle was rather empty on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and she sort of sensed it was Claire, call it intuition or mere coincidence, she did. To say she was nervous about the girl’s reaction would be poor in comparison to what crossed her mind. Truth be told Claire was one of the closest mates, it had taken her long enough to become friends with her, with anyone really. Art was the friendly type just never the bounding getting intimate type and it was awkward, the whole meet people deal, unless you were high. So the mere idea of have friction going on with Claire, it made her well uneasy.

She had everything prepared though, the needed books were there scattered across the table, enough parchment for said essay and the sufficient ink. She’d never considered herself that great of a tutor, but Herbology was darn simple for her, so that had to work out right?

She had some idea as to why was Claire so irritated towards her, it confused her really, but she guessed it had to do with Wes and certain gossips flying around them. Art wouldn’t cheat herself, she did felt some special thing for the boy, of course she did, it was already stated that she was a hopeless romantic, and she’d been thinking about him non-stop ever since their encounter. On the other hand she thought Wes and Claire had some sort of personal arrangement, something along the lines of sex mates, which was the reason why she went along with him.
Art was conscious that the boy would hardly feel the same towards her and she had been trying to enjoy the time she could spend with him rather than pondering if he felt anything or not. So the prospect of fighting of with Claire only added more bitterness to her current state.

“Hey”

"Hey," Claire answered, glancing at Art quickly. She took a seat next to the resources Art had already laid out and had a pang of guilt. Art genuinely didn't mean any harm. Here she was, on a Sunday evening, tutoring Claire on Herbology. As she pulled out what she'd already written, she saw one of Wes' origami creations run into a corner of her bag. The movement made her stop, a noise of (somewhat tender) surprise escaping her throat. She'd forgotten that she had it in there. Wes had made it for her during one of their charms classes the week before. Which was also when he'd slept with Art.

The thought made her face harden and she closed her bag angrily, slamming her essay on the table. "I don't understand the principles involved with breeding the Snargaluff," she snapped, rolling open her essay.

At first Art’s nerves eased down a bit at Claire’s response, at least she didn’t flinch or acted rude right away. She left her copy of Otelo aside and took seat next to Claire, putting a prudential distance between each, but not enough to seem displeased. She wasn’t really, just mixed up and a bit irritated about the whole deal.

She didn’t really see what had made Claire’s expression change so drastically, it seemed to come from her bag, but she wasn’t gonna take a peek, she’d have to make good use of her patience. As Claire movements got harsh Art just got defensive, which probably wasn’t a good idea, but she was getting angry at her for not even explaining her.

“Okay…” She really should use her head more than her heart now, but well, it wasn’t that easy. “It’s rather easy...” She said putting special emphasis on the word easy, she wasn’t sure of what was she implying, but she was already getting uncomfortable and her words must have sound a bit offensive, a girl can say a thousand things behind one little tiny innocent word, what she was saying? Hell knows but Claire caught her meaning better than herself.

"If I found it easy, I wouldn't be here, would I?" Claire shot back, faster than she could've hexed the other girl. But what Art had said was probably true; Claire blushed in embarrassment at not being able to pick things up in this subject as fast as everyone else.

No matter what her marks were at least she was applying herself the best way she knew how. She had a goal, and if this was one of the obstacles in trying to achieve it then so be it. She'd be damned if she was going to let this subject beat her.

Art was thrown aback by Claire’s response, she’d forgotten how fast the other girl could be, and if she was pissed off at her already, well things could always get nasty. But she tried to focus on the tutoring subject, it was well easy on her book so she’d do her best, luckily they could get past it with only cold indifference.

“Its all in the dirty really, Snargaluff needs some special care, right dirt, and caring development its enough to breed them right, it’s a bit like walking on egg shells though, can’t be too rude and raw in them, gotta be gentle and all” Okay so that was pretty basic, but she didn’t know how lost was Claire on the subject, she didn’t want to seem like she was assuming Claire was stupid either, but it was pretty basic stuff.

She was trying to sound casual and look confident, as if there was nothing going on between them. Everything would be rather calm as long as Claire failed to notice the little love mark she had on her neck… She was now almost sure that her strange attitude was all about Wes, and she didn’t even wanted to think about her reaction to such a vivid image of their ‘encounter’.

As soon as Art starting speaking Claire had had enough. All she wanted was to leave; to never have been there at all. Although the other girl was only trying to help, Claire felt like she was being patronised and indulged.

Before Art had even finished what she was saying Claire had started rolling up her parchment, dumping it -- along with her ink and quill -- into her bag. She stood up, the scraping her chair made was a harsh echo in the now silent room. "I can't do this," she muttered, picking up her bag and heading towards the door. "Not now."

She was blown away by Claire’s sudden change of mind; it wasn’t just a change of mind: she was bailing out on her.

Art now felt insulted, she’d had rescheduled her afternoon in order to have time for the tutoring, and she’d picked the books and all. It wasn’t bloody fair, and Claire was acting too bloody strange, whatever the fuck it was she needed to solve it out. She grabbed the girl's wrist to prevent her from just running off.

“Claire what the fuck is going on with you?” So Art was usually tamed and patient, but come on, this was getting ridiculous, if it was about Wes she could well damn say it and end with the whole deal. She hoped the question had enough implications for Claire to get that she was getting pissed off, and that whatever the fuck it was it had to end now.

Claire yelped when Art restrained her, bruised flesh still tender. She moved towards the other girl to try and alleviate the pain.

"Fuck, Art." A hiss of words as she jerked her arm back, rubbing the skin gently. "Nothing is going on with me," she answered, eyes dark and angry. Claire wasn't angling for a confrontation; in reality she thought that bringing up the reason for her mood was petty and immature. But that had hurt she was riled up enough to want to make Art know that.

Art removed her hand as soon as she heard Claire's yelp, fuck, how could she have guessed there would be a bruise in that exact spot?

The girl was clearly furious, eyeing her like she'd just hit her or something, and Art wasn't going to allow that. They were bloody mates, and she was so pissed off now, that whatever it was she'd pop it out, it would be like a band-aid right? Quick and painless? Okay maybe not but she'd be angry the rest of the day if she didn't give it a try.

"So all this isn't about me and Wes screwing?" it probably wasn't to prudential, who cared? things were already messed.
