Guild Wars Finally Unveiled

NCsoft and ArenaNet finally released images and info for the long-awaited Guild Wars 2, also at GamesCom. The teaser trailer doesn't convey much (other than the fact that ArenaNet still employs fantastically talented artists), but the developer was willing to shed light on one of the game's new features: the event system. In similar fashion to Warhammer Online's public quests, GW 2's events offer a dynamic way for players to work together to impact something in the gameworld. ArenaNet shared an example of a centaur raid on a military outpost, where the outcome of the raid determines whether the next battle takes place as the human forces counterattack to either retake the outpost or go after the centaur's base. Unlike the first game, Guild Wars 2 features a persistent world like most MMO's, though the relative balance of instanced content to public space is as of yet unknown. NCsoft has yet to announce a release date for the title.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is an action role-playing game developed by Square Enix and Japanese studio Jupiter and published by Square Enix in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance. The game serves as an intermediary between the two larger-scale PlayStation 2 games in the Kingdom Hearts series. It was one of the first GBA games to incorporate full motion video (FMV). The game was remade into a PlayStation 2 game titled Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, which was released in Japan as a second disc packaged with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix in March 2007. The remake was released in North America on December 2, 2008.

LEGO: Rock Band

We already know you dig Rock Band, but you might be thinking: Why LEGOs? Here's why: it's for kids. Or, more accurately, for the whole family. LEGO: Rock Band takes the familiar gameplay of the large-scale Rock Band and Rock Band 2, and throws in that unique LEGO magic.

You already know how to play the game -- match the notes coming down the note highway, try to hit them on time and on-point -- so let me discuss that LEGO difference )

As for the hands-on part of the game: I played "The Final Countdown" by Europe on guitar, and it played exactly like Rock Band, although I did find myself a bit distracted by the LEGO antics of the the onscreen avatars.

According to the MTV representative on hand at E3, LEGO Rock Band's family-friendly song list won't be able to be augmented with DLC, and the game will probably feature a mixture of master tracks and covers. It comes out this Fall for the PS3, PS2, Nintendo DS, and Xbox 360.

Nintendo wants to check your pulse. The game maker on Tuesday debuted the Wii Vitality Sensor, a gadget that wraps around a player's index finger. No games were announced that would use the new gizmo, but Nintendo President Satoru Iwata suggested it could be used to "let people unwind or maybe even make it easier to fall asleep." Iwata discussed the apparatus and showed an image of the sensor Tuesday at Nintendo's Electronic Entertainment Expo presentation at Club Nokia.

The game maker also announced the new Wii games "Super Mario Bros. Wii," a side-scroller featuring the mustached plumber and the ability to play with four players; "Wii Fit Plus," a follow-up to the popular fitness game with more workout personalization; and a sequel to "Super Mario Galaxy."

For the handheld Nintendo DS system, Nintendo unveiled "Women's Murder Club: Games of Passion," a mystery game based on the James Patterson franchise; "Style Savvy," a fashion title aimed at tweens; and role-playing games "Mario and Lugi: Bowser's Inside Story" and "Golden Sun DS."

I was able to describe the first artwork for the upcoming Legend of Zelda game for Wii earlier this week, but Nintendo wouldn't let anyone in attendance take a picture. Thankfully, though, it released the artwork officially today.
