To say that things were calm would have been a lie, Mark knew - they were teetering on a precipice waiting to see which side they'd come down on when things shook out. He'd spent a few days at the pack house this week to make sure everyone stayed safe, but that was how he'd ended up out that afternoon. Making the round, even if it was just quickly, even if they didn't talk, he liked to lay eyes on pack members and make sure they were okay, that he could help out if they needed it.
Of course when it came to Lux, Mark needed a little bit more than just eyes on, which was how they'd ended up out for lunch together, sitting across from each other at a cafe sandwiches and drinks on the table between them. "So you're okay, right?" Mark asked, not for the first time since he'd commandeered some of her time.
It was just good to be able to touch base with his friend from time to time, particularly when he knew things were likely to go to hell sooner rather than later.
