Finer Things Club meets every Thursday at 8pm at MIST. There's a meeting tonight. For those of you that don't know, finer things club is a free club for trying new things and new foods. We talk about one new thing each week and sample one new food. Here are some questions I've been asked before and the answers.
Why?
To learn about things that may be new to you and to try new foods. Because people arrive here from different times, places and circumstances. There are people haven't had the opportunity or the freedom to experience the things we have here before.
When?
Thursdays at 8pm.
Where?
MIST.
Who can come?
Anyone!!!! If you don't know anything or much about the topic of the week, then this is your chance to learn about it so you can enjoy it. If you know about the topic, then you can come and share what you know. Or you can come just to try the food and be around people.
Is it like being lectured?
No, I usually start things off by explaining the topic of the week and then we all chat and eat. It's like hanging out.
Will there be enough food for a meal?
Not usually. I bring enough food for everyone to sample the food of the week. Think of it as a snack or a dessert.
Is it fancy?
No. The name Finer Things comes from a TV show. It's just a name. It's casual. You don't need to dress up or do anything else beside come.
What if I want to do more?
Cool! You can suggest a topic or a food. You can make suggestions of what you'd like to know about. Or what you think others might like to know about. If you know a lot about a topic, you can start off the meeting one week. If you like to cook or bake (or buy food and share it), you can bring a food to try. Please tell me in advance if you want to start off a meeting or bring food or both. Just so I know I don't have to think up a topic or bring a food.
What will this night's Finer Things Club be about? What about the next meetings?
Tonight's meeting will be about Cherry Blossom trees and where you can see them in Boston. The food will be sakura manju and hanami dango.
Next week, the 17th will be about Easter. The meeting will be focused on what to expect to see around Dunwich and Boston/what you may have already seen such as candy in stores, treats being hidden for children etc. If there's time, we might decorate eggs. That's an Easter tradition.
The week after that, the 24th will be about recipes using leftover candies and chocolates, with samples as the food. Easter candy will be on sale by then.
