WHO: Ethan Marshall ---> Ethan Chandler
WHEN: September 9th
WHERE: Vet Clinic ---> London
SUMMARY: Flashback to being the Alpha Wolf
WARNINGS: Nah
Ethan shifted, squatting down in the middle of his examination room, so that he was able to rest his elbows on his knees and dangle his hands between his legs. He lifted his eyes to look at the owner of the new patient, who was apologzing profusely for her dog that was hiding behind her legs. "It's perfectly alright," he reassured her, giving her a calming smile, before turning his focus back to the canine. Shifting to press one of his knees down against the floor, he outsretched his hand, a non threatening greeting and waited patiently. This was a scenario he was more than accustomed to and he had a certain way with most of the canines who visited the clinic. He was trusted and seemed as though he always had been. The timid girl emerged from behind her owners legs and cautiously moved for Ethan. As she came up by him, brushing her fur against his finger tips, Ethan's finger went stiff and still as his eyes widened. It wasn't the first time he was hit with a flash of memory. He'd been triggered by such occurrences before. But they were almost always exclusive to sound and would send him propelling back to a desert; coupled with gunfire and explosions and screams. This was different. This was something else. The first flash of sound was the click of a pistol getting locked. "Don't shoot!" was commanded, by his own voice, as words he did not remember saying in any scenario such as this. It was pitch dark and the air was heavy with the feel of smog. Individuals were around him and on each side was an approaching predator. They were not dogs. They were wolves and they were circling himself and his companions. More commands were dictated from himself in this flash of memory as he slowly broke from the group. The pack had come together and the alpha was out front, teeth bared, and Ethan was taking off a glove to reach his hand out just as he was doing back in the examination room. Only, in the examination room, there was a timid creature opposed to a predatory one. His hand remained outstretched and the wolf came closer. Ethan did not avoid it's gaze. They locked eyes and the wolf opened it's mouth just enough that Ethan's finger tips were millimeters away from the edges of it's teeth. It didn't bare down but one false move from Ethan, one semblance of fear or distrust, and his hand would be gone. He did not flinch and after moments of lingering in uncertainty, the wolf pulled it's mouth back, and withdrew. It left Ethan alone. And that was enough to snap Ethan from the flash of memory. His hand was still being rubbed against by the poor timid girl. The only indication that something was wrong with Ethan was how his eyes had grown. Shaking just a little, he let his hand fall enough to stroke at the girl's fur, to assure her that they were okay. "See? I'm nothing to be frightened of," he whispered to her, but in his mind, he was thinking only of what should have been incredibly frightening to him. It had felt so real, but it couldn't be. |
