X-Files - Scully
[all aboard the scully pain train]
Sometimes at night, when she was half asleep, she felt the weight of the eyes of the universe. She was Josef K., on trial for an undisclosed crime, unable to defend herself, to convince the universe that she was innocent. After all, she wasn’t sure that she was innocent, and all the evidence against her played across her bedroom ceiling like a zoetrope illusion. She knew it was her own conscience, but maybe that was worse.
Zoetrope, she thought, the wheel of life.
Condemned, she thought, and punched her pillow.
The wheel of life, she thought, and dressed for work.
