"What if it actually answered you?"
Margo hadn't seen him at her door, but hid her surprise. She wasn't about to let Brakebills' complete lack of privacy beat her.
"Depends what it said. Just because it's an omniscient talking mirror doesn't mean its opinions are valid."
"But if you can't trust an omniscient talking mirror, who can you trust?" he countered. "Anyway, I thought you might like a drink"--he handed her a martini glass, a tiny whirlpool spinning the blue concoction--"and I think we should be friends."
