Sadness had taken to wandering the stacks whenever her family became too much. Joy had an opinion on everything, of course. Fear kept up his chattering monologue in the background no matter what anyone said. Anger exploded now and then. And Disgust was, well, judgy.
“It’s just a bunch of stuff no one can use anymore,” she’d scoffed the last time Sadness announced where she was going. So she didn’t bother telling them anymore.
Riley’s memories were a labyrinth she could get lost in, where everything was just a little faded, a little real, and Sadness always had a place.
