Apathetic & Impressed (The Magicians)
There are moments when Eliot can see through the monster's eyes. Once he's eating a churro; another time, he's killing a barista, and Eliot tries not to see. But one day, he's shaken awake by Quentin's voice saying, “Hey! What are you doing?”
“Q!” he yells, just as the monster strikes Quentin and sends him flying.
"Leave him alone!" Eliot shouts, but there's no response. He doesn't even know if the monster hears him. He hears Q though, making an impressive stand against this creature who could crush him with a breath, fighting to protect his body. To protect Eliot.
"That's cute," the monster says, wrapping his hands around Q's throat, "but I'm strong and you're weak."
"Don't hurt him!" screams Eliot, but it's Quentin's voice that cuts him.
“Break my bones, strangle me, I’m too tired to care anymore. You hurt him and you can build your body alone." He sounds more apathetic than Eliot can bear. It frustrates the monster - Eliot can feel his annoyance - but he releases his hold.
"Fine, I’ll take better care of the meatsuit. You don’t have to be such a baby about it."
