Surprised (Black Sails)
Days on the farm pass slowly. Endless rows to till, endless hours to fill. Many would find it tedious, as Thomas Hamilton had when he arrived. Then, every hour had seemed a challenge to occupy his thoughts. The problem is, his thoughts - plentiful as they are - are not nearly enough to fill all the empty time here.
He's used to it now. To the slow movement of the seasons, the gradual shortening of the day. He's learned not to fill his time but simply to accept it. He's forgotten how to be surprised.
