Who: Mingmei and OPEN (YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. OPEN TO ANYONE! COME ON. WHO DOESN'T HAVE A REASON TO GO TO STARBUCKS?)
Where: Starbucks near UNLV
When: Wednesday, May 9 around midday
What: Mingmei is studying, open to anyone who's interested in popping in or for any character who would have a reason to go to Starbucks.
Status: Incomplete/Threaded, Open to any character.
She knew that she had three months before the school year started, and for Mingmei this would be her first time attending an American university. However, that didn't stop this dedicated exchange student from preparing early for her classes. She knew that with English as her third language that she would have a lot to catch up on and studying ahead was the best way for her to prepare for her coursework that would start that fall.
It was her hour lunch break. Mingmei, per usual, had purchased a small portion of steamed buns from a nearby Chinese shop and was enjoying a frappucino with them. They were ridiculously expensive compared to back in China. She could have purchased the steamed buns for maybe $2, but here they were five dollars. She'd have to watch her money very carefully, and was grateful that Starbucks allowed a free coffee on her break. It was a great business proposition, one that Mingmei couldn't really ignore.
She was sitting at a table in the middle of the shop, with a small pile of books surrounding her. Some of the titles included business in America, and English Composition. There was also an ESL book that had a list of useful grammatical structures and other vocabulary words that would eventually help improve her language ability. "Kan e kan," muttered Mingmei in her native Mandarin, shaking her head as her pencil scratched across the paper in front of her. " Wo shi ben da." She was calling herself stupid (literally, I'm a stupid egg), but she was far from that. It wasn't easy to move completely across the world from what she was familiar with. She was managing fairly well, but perhaps one of the few things that was keeping herself going right now was the coffee in front of her, and the promising future of her studies. After all, she had a family back home to make proud. Taking out her cell phone, Mingmei smiled a bit as she studied the picture of her brother and her sister.
