Who: Loki
What: A brief narrative in response to this.
Where: Asgard (Marvel Door)
When: After Thor dropped by.
Warnings/Rating: M for Mischief!

Louis was busy trying to catch up on all the things he'd missed while he had let Loki stay through various doors and conduct his own business, but after Loki had spoken with his brother, he insisted on going back and seeing if he was in Asgard. They had things to discuss, after all, personal business Loki wished to attend to.

When Loki arrived in Asgard, the guards at first simply stood at attention. But he watched them as he went by, saw them as they leaned and spoke to one another, and he knew, then, that his brother had been there. When they blocked his way any further than his own quarters, it only confirmed what he had already guessed.

"And my brother told you to stand in my path, I expect?" he asked them. When he had killed Soren and retaken the throne, he had been all jests and confident tricks. Now, Loki was no longer so much in the mood to be amused. His brother's interference never put him in a positive frame of mind. Seeing them stand there, silently defiant despite all the threats he'd made against their kin, he was tempted to turn the guards to trees, root them where they stood and teach them the meaning of 'standing firm.' They were such brave Asgardians, brave and true, standing there dumb as posts, loyal to his brother to the last.

They could wait. Loki swept past them into his room and shut the door behind. He heard the clink of armor as the men slid into place outside the door, of course, to hold him there for his brother to pass judgement on him when he returned. "Arrogant fools," he said, walking through the front room to his chamber behind. They would get what was coming to them. He was more interested in making sure his things hadn't been disturbed.

The message on his mirror stopped him in his tracks. Runes. No one had left him a message in runes for...a very long time. It brought back memories of life before, before Thor's exile and near-coronation, a time when he'd still thought that they were brothers. They'd left messages in runes for one another for ages, since they were both children. Now, like so many things that had left his life in the past few months, he never saw the runes anymore.

He quashed those thoughts before they could go any further. Silly nostalgia wasn't going to get him anywhere, and the message the runes actually spoke to only confirmed that fact. So, his brother would call upon their history together, try to chastise him for his actions while challenging him to fight. He would break into his quarters and leave a message implying that Loki hadn't deserved the crown, and that Thor's own sense of 'justice' would prevail in the end.

Well, if Thor was going to challenge him, Loki would have to meet it. If Thor could waltz into Asgard and take back the throne Loki had claimed for his own simply by talking to the guards, simply by being the golden boy brat they all so loved, then so be it. Loki hardly needed Asgard. Midgard was the place he intended to make his new, true kingdom. Asgard could run itself into the ground with an idiot for a ruler, and more the fool them. They weren't even worth spending the time to exterminate.

Though it wasn't a bad idea. He'd have to come back for them, once Midgard was safely in hand.

When Loki didn't send up a hue and cry at being held against his will, or even attempt to leave his room, the guards opened the door to check and see where he'd gone. They found the room bare of Loki's belongings, the mirror smashed, and the whole place charred as if by a grand conflagration, though they had seen no smoke and heard no noise. It was desecrated, a cold and empty temple. The stains on the walls would not come off, and the room smelled of ice and smoke long after he was gone. The gutted rooms would serve as a reminder that Loki no longer counted himself amongst Asgard's citizens. He left it as an ill omen - a precursor to war.
