It's not a business to go into if you aren't passionate about it, if there's something else you can imagine doing with your life. Life is so short, and so painful, and can be so cruel. If you can shore up through all those things without playing music, then it's not your career or calling. But if it's the only refuge you have, then all you can do is hope to make enough money to pay the bills and keep doing it, really. I've been lucky, phenomenally lucky. Most musicians aren't, especially classical ones. My luck will probably run out someday, but until then, I'm just drinking up my good fortune whilst I can.
