[Inside a plain, brown box is:

[Wrapped inside is a note, unsigned]

Mushu:
Okay, let me see what you got.
[reading Cri-Kee's note] "From General Li. Dear Son, we're waiting for the Huns at the pass. It would mean a lot if you'd come and back us up." Hmm, that's great, except you forgot, "And since we're out of potpourri, perhaps you wouldn't mind bringing up some." *Hel-lo!* This is the army! Make it sound more urgent, please! You know what I'm talkin' about?

Call to Andrew P

[Knowing full well that no postal service delivers on Sunday, and, of course, not being an idiot, Lin knows immediately, upon opening the package, who it's from. He looks at it for a while - the wig and the accompanying note, turning them both over in his hands before making up his mind to call Andrew. Apparently, there was no easy way out of this. Picking up his phone, he hits the little contact labeled 'Duke's Son' and hits the call button. He rubs his left eye distractedly as the line rings.]

[Andrew was not back at the Wynn yet. He had decided to venture out and see more properties. He is standing in one of them as the phone rang. He waved off the agent.]

Hi.

[Holding the bridge of his nose between his forefinger and thumb, Lin jumps into the conversation without so much as a hello.]

Normally I would already have donned a wig that lights up without need of an electrical outlet, and normally, I don't really care the circumstances that lead to me getting gifts, but - you know I can't take this, don't you?

[Andrew looks up and shakes his head. He walks out to the deck of the house.]

It's not a diamond. It's a wig. There is a big difference, and I did tell you, or rather, you told me that you wanted seven. It's really not a big deal. We are still friends, yeah?

[There is no amusement in Lin's voice when he speaks. Instead, he sounds sarcastic.]

Oh, it's not a diamond? Thanks for letting me know. Us laypeople can hardly tell the difference, so much appreciated. - But really, I know what I said, but I don't know - accepting even a wig is making me feel awkward, which is probably a sign that I shouldn't take it. You know, I wanted a few days to mull things over, but this is only managed to cement how I was feeling before. Friends I can be with you, but that's it. And things like this make me question whether or not that's something you can do.

[Andrew's exasperation shows as he huffs.]

Good bloody God, man.

[...]

The situation is awkward. Don't think that I don't feel awkward. I don't even know what I am supposed to be waiting for, which I don't think will be anything at all.

I happen to buy my friends lots of things because I can, and it's something we had discussed, and the lights were just you, so take it, but don't assume that I know the rules of your waiting period. I don't even know why you are confused.

[Andrew isn't really sure what he is saying or doing, but he is disappointed in the reaction.]

Okay. Just stop. Who said you're waiting? I told you I wanted to think about things and I would get back to you. Is that what is so cumbersome to wait for? If so, sorry. And sorry that apparently you need the promise of something for your patience to be worthwhile.

[A pause.]

I'm not confused. I'm annoyed. I'm annoyed that you would send me this. Say whatever you want about buying your friends things, you already told me the stipulations of you buying me dinosaur bones. Like, I get it. I get that when you like someone - in whatever way - romantically, sexually, or as a friend - that you want them to like you back, that you want them to know you're thinking of them. And that's a nice idea. But when I ask for space and time, sending me a gift is not respecting my wish. Doesn't that make sense?

[Not waiting for an answer to his truthfully rhetoric question, Lin plows on.]

Honestly, I get that you think I'm blowing this out of proportion. Maybe I would think the same if I were you. I don't know. I'll never be you. But, I'm trying to tell you how I feel and why I can't take this gift, and you keep pushing it on me and breaking down the boundaries I'm asking you to respect. I need you to see why that's a problem. And if you can't, then I can't talk to you.

[Andrew has to take a minute to swallow his anger at the whole thing. He had totally ignored the fact that his inner voice told him this was a bad idea.]

I'm confused, okay. I don't know your rules, and you never exactly told me what you wanted or didn't want, so I stepped out of that box and didn't play the 'All about Lin game correctly'. Perhaps someone else would have, but the one who waits so patiently is often the one who remains content with nothing.

Don't take it, put it in the closet or throw it in the rubbish heap. I don't want it back. If you don't want to talk to me [...] fine.

Can I ask you something?

[Lin's mouth opens at the 'all about Lin game' comment, but he waits for Andrew to finish.]

No. First, I didn't say I didn't want to talk to you. Listen closely. I said, if you can't respect my boundaries, then I cannot talk to you. Because I've done enough of that - boundary blurring - and it always comes back to bite me or someone else, or both of us, in the ass and it's not worth it, I've found. Second, there are no 'rules' because there is no 'game.' And implying as much is not only patronizing, it's insulting. As is telling me this is all about me. I don't really think you need to be a dick to get your point across. I'm sorry you're upset with me for not taking your gift with a smile, but if you would listen to me, I would hope you would understand why and let it be.

Now ask. What?

[He pauses, waiting for the string of comments to pass that would have surely had him yelling, and whatever sort of friendship they had dead.]

I had boundaries at one point, and I did like you. Is that better?

[He sounds serious, reflecting the demeanor that has taken over his body. He is all business, not giving any emotion an inch.]

I'm obviously not going to do or say what you want, and honestly, all the ways that you correct me are irritating. This whole thing has been a parade of things that Lin likes, from moon bounces to Mulan, and you spare no expense to criticize if I get that wrong, and you don't know the first thing about me.

[There was more he wanted to say, but the truth was brutal, and he didn't think it would matter.]

Nevermind the question. I would rather be me than to jump in some house to try and please you. Keep the wig as a commemorative.

[Lin sighs. He palms his eye again. There are a lot of words on the tip of his tongue, but being on the offensive is exhausting and confrontation is not his strong suit.]

At least you're finally being honest. Is that all you want to say to me?

[Andrew did consider it, but in the end, the truth wasn't always the best thing.]

I don't think you really want my complete honesty. It wouldn't do anyone any good. [He pauses, raising his eyebrows.] Do you remember that night when I wanted to leave, you know those boundaries are messy. You wouldn't let me. You did nothing to respect those boundaries, and kept on and on and on. Shouldn't both of our boundaries be important, or is that only for you as well?
