Re: Daniel W./Christine D. That you do not feel well.
It is lovely. It is in a busy row of other such homes, on a lane that is not fashionable, but not entirely disreputable. It is a place where mistresses to Counts have tea in the afternoons, and where women with the gall to leave their husbands have made a life, and where men with wives that are too dark or too impure have built their nests.
The house itself is four stories, a thin and narrow structure that reaches for the Paris skyline. There is a large, pretty window seat in the music room, and the reading room on the third floor has a very nice view of the lane. The solicitor that helped acquire the property has been most kind, and he has helped me secure a ladies maid, for he insisted I required one, and a man to tend to the gardens and the door, but who I know is there to ensure I am not taken advantage of.
The ladies maid is Italian, and she has very forward ideas regarding hair and fashion, but she is very young, and she chatters as she works, and I find she reminds me of my Meg in many ways. The solicitor felt I should invite a few artists from the area, and I have agreed to have them call tomorrow evening. They are not a respectable set, but I must begin living this life, if I am to learn my way in it.
