Faust
[Locked to Faust].

Something 'German' is rather ambiguous, is it not?

Do you ever visit the market without knowing what you want?

There have been times where this has been true.

I've gone many times expecting to find something from my own country. A trinket, art...but I never find what I'm looking for.

What German things do you know?

Not as many as I wish that I did, but I am sure I know where to get help should I need it.

I was simply hoping for more direction than 'something German'. Food versus something you can keep, in other words.

Not at all!

Is there anything in particular that you miss? I will do my very best to surprise you, but particular wishes ought to be granted as well.

Fantastic! The Altbier is the color of dark copper hair and it tastes like a very bitter biscuit dipped in caramel. It is smooth, though. That is an important part.

The bitter doesn't sound as appealing as the caramel. Why is it being smooth so important?

The bitter makes you appreciate the caramel. Too much sweet is never a good thing, don't you agree?

The smoothness [...] reminds me the most of home. Life was incredibly easy when I lived in my small town.

But isn't the bitter almost a punishment? I recall bitter medicines when I was young. They were unpleasant and horrible. Not even something sweet after helped them.

Tell me about it?

Germans do love our punishment.

It was a small town a day's ride away from any large city. Ancient castles decayed on the mountains around us and no one dared go anywhere near them. Innovation and exploration were less valuable than virtue and the ability to provide for your family. Young thinkers left the town early and yet I stayed. I ran my apothecary, tried not to fall asleep in church after a late night of experiments and waited for the rest of the world to come to me. Truly, I thought my life was predictable and dull in that town. I'm ashamed to say that I desperately miss it sometimes. The chime of church bells, the smell of the nearby bakery. The simple kindness.

But you left eventually, otherwise you would not miss it. Why did you leave? Because it was predictable and dull?

Precisely. I made a pact to gain dark magic and set out as an adventurer. I sailed with pirates, met exotic women and did whatever I pleased. Gretch [...] I do appreciate my magic, of course, but a man needs balance once and a while.

I am. I specialize in potions and enchanted items. Though, the enchanted things tend to develop personalities of their own. My favorite hat, for example, vanishes from time to time on a whim.

I've only heard of people like you. I have never met one. At least your hat comes back to you. It must be fond of you to return.

Most magicians do not live for very long. Think of the most ridiculous way a wizard could die and I am certain I've heard it before. Go ahead, try.
