I would claim something more along the lines of 'active REM.'

Dreamcatchers have a specific purpose.

There's two. There's one about a cave and one about a lab. I could do without both.

I could get you a dreamcatcher, but I don't think that would make them stop. [...] How long?

Probably not. It was a whim. Hilarious.

The cave is old. Few years. The lab is new.

Get this, at one point there was a lab in the cave.

You meant it as a joke?

But not the same one. [...] I don't know how to make dreams stop. I'm sorry. Is there something else you want?

There's no scientific basis in the effectiveness of dreamcatchers. So yes, a joke.

Naw, Cupid, I'm good. I'm the luckiest man in the world.

I think it could be argued that scientific basis isn't always required for something to be effective.

You're using sarcasm.

Not very well argued.

A little bit.

You've never experienced anything that defies science?

Then there must be something else you do want.

Defies known science. It must means science hasn't caught up to whatever the phenomenon might be.

No, not really. Some answers. Some better science. Not really anything that comes in a box.

Or it simply can't be explained.

Answers to what? Better science depends on what you have now.

Everything has an explanation. Just because you can't come up with it yet doesn't mean anything.

Answers? I need more information on how spiny projection neurons move to inhibit other neurons in basal ganglia outputs. Got anything for me?

Then the unexplainable is merely that which can be explained, but has not yet been.

Unfortunately, no. Not presently.

Great. Wonderful. Thanks for nothing. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go change medical science as we know it.
