"So long as you are sure," Marina said, leaning up to press a kiss to her husband's cheek. She never wanted to do anything that would upset him or make him uncomfortable. But it was also important to respect his decisions in these instances when he made them and not assume she knew better. If he said he wanted to stay, then she would trust that he knew his own mind. If he later changed his mind, she would be more than happy to support him in that. But for now, she would go along with it. Because it would be nice to sit together and enjoy the fireworks.
Taking a blanket from her bag, she spread it out on the ground and settled, patting the spot next to her to get Oliver to join her. Once he was settled, she curled up against his side. "This is nice," she said, resting her head against his shoulder. For all that they had both seen over their many years, she had always appreciated the little things. Time together. Simple pleasures.
