The hunt of the gems had been getting desperate. Each shop turned over, each item reviewed and discarded from the millions of small shiny objects that the shadow goblins had brought the summoner over the last two months. Millions of useless things. Rings and necklaces, loose change, small tools, bolts, nuts, anything small and shiny that the shadow goblins could snatch up, they did. Even things as confusing as retainers and tins that held mints would be snatched up as the goblins lack of understanding showed through.
The continued failure of the shadowy goblinoid creatures to acquire such a simple series of items - seven gems, seven, they already had three, only four more were needed - was infuriating. They had seemed like the perfect summon to collect small shiny objects - it was unfortunate that the summoner hadn’t thoroughly thought through that the magically shadowy creatures might not be the brightest - but it was unfortunate how wrong the summoner had been.
That was why - with an electric crackle humming in the air, coming from everywhere yet nowhere all at once, feeling like it extended far into the sky - the hooded summoner walked down the middle of darkened and emptied streets. Fog had settled in that night making the swarm of shadowy goblin creatures that pulsed and thrust forward violently, tearing things apart as they moved, ripping car mirrors off and bringing them back to the summoner, even more disturbing. Each goblin fetching something and then lunging back to the summoner to show it like a child before the summoner would curse and kick back the shadow goblin once more.
A roaming mass of shadow with claws and teeth that slid through metal like a hot knife through butter surged forward, devouring anything metallic or shiny - like the goblins were starving and the item was the only thing they had ever seen to eat - with low chattering noises in seconds as their sounds echoed against walls of buildings, newspaper boxes, and more. Yet, no one from immediately inside the buildings would emerge into the streets as the summoner continued down it, letting his half ethereal minions rip apart the world and street around him as they progressed forward. In fact, the buildings would seem silent, darkened and almost like ghosts of their former selves.
“FIND IT! NOW!” Screamed the summoner as he thrust an arm forward, pointing towards the storefront. “START THERE!” His voice cracked from the intensity and strain of the volume. “DESTROY IT ALL IF YOU NEED TO! JUST FIND ME THOSE GEMS!” Foam and spittle flew from his mouth as veins in his neck strained and the Summoner moved his arm gesturing for the shadow goblins to destroy everything on the street, starting right the fuck here.
