Fen was… Still getting used to this universe. It was weird. Though in some ways it was more normal than many of the other universes she’d ever lived in. However, maybe looking at things as ‘normal’ and ‘not normal’ wasn’t a good way to put it. Fen had learned long ago that normal was only a matter of perception. She had also learned that her perspective of ‘normal’ was garbage and all ideas of ‘normal’ needed to be thrown out. Moving from place to place like she had taught her a lot about… Everything. Things were replaceable, people were even replaceable to a degree when you could go find another version of them in a different dimension and make friends with them there too. No one was ever really gone, but each new version of them you’d be lost with once again. It really gave a whole new meaning to how a person could disappear once memory of them was gone from those they knew. But maybe, this world was worth making people remember her in. The realization had been slow dawning on her admittedly, Fen wasn’t always the best at nailing down how she felt and acting on it. That was likely due to years of constant movement but… That wasn’t needed now. Not here. While settling down wasn’t inherently something most people would consider part of Fen’s “style”, they couldn’t be further from the truth. Sure, she’d wanted to be a Big Damn Hero like her mothers had been but the idea of a family? That… That was just as important to Fen as being the blazing hero of Right and Glory. Though that whole blazing hero of Right and Glory or the fact that she was a Big Damn Hero wasn’t exactly obvious when it came to the often quiet, clearly judging, obviously reserved, and regularly surly Fen. Hell, sometimes it was amazing she could make friends at fucking all. How her and Lore had actually ended up together at all - even though she knew the story - was a fucking mystery. If she wanted people to remember her, to know her name and share stories of her when they were old though that meant Fen had to spend time in this universe and with these people, and not just Lore. Even if only spending time with Lore was tempting some nights when she’d gotten back from a horror universe and didn’t want to see or think about anything. ‘Make a life for yourself, Mija’ The bruiser could practically hear her mother say even if she hadn’t heard the woman’s voice in nearly two decades at this point. Making a life meant… Living. And not just to be a Big Damn Hero. Living meant working, interacting with people, letting people know you and your name and staying around long enough so that they could even have the chance to learn those things if they so would choose. That was what brought Fen to The Arches Gym today. While she may take a while making up her mind if she wanted to try to offer a boxing course or not, having an extra hand at the gym - even if it was to escort out a trouble maker - always seemed to be useful and while Lore had never really asked, Fen regularly showed up to help. It was an expression of love really, wordlessly showing up to help lift heavy things and throw trouble makers out, and thankfully Lore had never seen it as anything but as far as Fen knew. Today was no exception to this and Fen had shown up around 10am to start passively checking in with staff - a quick “How’s things?” offered to anyone who seemed like they might be needing assistance. Thankfully, Fen had been around the gym enough that most of the workers seemed to understand what the question was getting at - ‘where do you need help?’ - and never gave her much guff about it. If it was venting out their stress while she stood there silently listening, or pointing out what needed to be moved or who needed to be removed, the workers at the gym had come to know Fen as the solutions sort. The sort that also didn’t mind someone crazy asshole screaming in her face as she stared them down and then physically, impolitely removed them from the spot they’d been in to relocate them appropriate outside and preferably face first into a snowbank or dirty puddle if Fen had her choice. There was the rare instance when powers got wonky but thankfully Fen had been able to handle all things that had been tossed her way so far. Maybe that was what she should do, train those with super strength. She’d have to come back to that thought. So far, there had been drama as Fen made her rounds through the instructors and spaces but it was still early so who knew what the day had in store for them yet. |
