Do you think a man should ask permission from a girl's parent(s) before he proposes?
I think it is obviously outdated, but still a cute thing to do.

I'd be insulted tbh, it's like he's asking if he can have you like you're property

i don't necessarily think he
should
, but its kind of cute. though personally i wouldn't want him to ask my parents..i don't want everyone to know i'm getting engaged before i even know.

I don't necessarily think they should, but I know my parents would appreciate it. Especially since they don't always know just who it is I'm dating/how serious the relationship is. I'm pretty sure if I was just to come out and be like, "Oh hay! Im gettin' hitched!" they'd be a little taken aback by it and what not.

i think it's ridiculous. i'd want to be the one to tell my parents if i were to get married and honestly, why should permission be needed? i will be an adult that does not belong to anyone.

i wouldn't be mad if that happened, but i don't see any reason to do it. and god forbid your parents don't like your significant other. what the hell do you do when they say no? it's supposed to be asked out of respect but if they hate you then it's like.. okay gonna dump her then since you said no. lmao idk, i am rambling. i vote for don't bother
unless
the family is super traditional. like if hints get dropped, like "oh my sister's boyfriend asked my dad if they could get married~ it was so romantic~" otherwise i don't think it's necessary.

I think it's kinda cute, but I wouldn't want that to happen for me personally because A: My relationship with my dad is kind of awkward, and B: My mom can never keep a secret, so I wouldn't want her to know before me. :[

I think it is a cute idea if you ask the dad first to get his blessing but not permission. That sort of gives the creepy passing-of-ownership vibe.

i think it's cute. i wouldn't care if my guy wanted to do that because he wouldn't be able to find my parents anyway lmao i certainly wouldn't tell him where they were

i think it's cute, a nice gesture albeit in no way neccessary. also i guess i don't think of the father "giving away" the bride as literal as others have expressed. life's short, i wouldn't get worked up about such tedious things. i don't think anybody really thinks of it as if the parents say no then that's that and they won't get married, so it's not really "permission" it's just a blessing. and i also don't think very many people are like "oh how sweet he's giving his daughter away and paying the man with pigs" or w/e like the old days :-\

I don't think it's necessary, but it is cute. My cousin's fiancee asked my grandparents for permission before proposing to my cousin.

if that floats your boat, then that's cool. i don't knock people or think less of them for being into that sort of tradition. i personally would laugh my ass off if my man asked my parents for permission, then feel insulted. i'm my own person and my life is not decided by my parents. i'm not traditional in any sense, therefore i wouldn't want him to.

I think it's cute.
When my friend's boyfriend asked her to marry her he asked her father about a week in advance when he was going to do it, so her parents threw her a surprise engagement party, it was so cute. Her family is big on tradition though.
In my family it's not like necessary or anything, but I'd be cool with my boyf asking for my step dad's blessing. Idk like I said to the proposal question above, I like the idea of a classic engagement but I wouldn't be offended if he didn't.

yeahhhh i think so. i mean it's not necessary specially if they don't all get along, but if they do all get along then i don't see a reason NOT to ask permission if you know what i'm saying.

I think it's adorable to ask for a blessing and permission. After all, the bride is someone's daughter. To me, it's a sign of respect for the family.

My Mom would look at him like he was an idiot and tell him he'd have to ask me. If he asked my Dad, I'd say no, anyway.
The whole giving away kinda annoys me, because I have a horrible relationship with my Dad, and if ANYONE is giving me away, it's my Mom. And my family has given me shit for saying that, but whatev. I probably won't even get married until my brother gets divorced, so it's all good.
