Do you think that people with obesity should be allowed to receive handicap parking passes?

if obesity is the only problem, no. if there are other health issues that actually handicap them, yes.

absolutely. obesity is very capable of not only making you handicapped, but it can also kill.

nope, because i don't think its a proper handicap. you have a choice on whether or not to become slimmer, whereas other handicaps aren't under your control.

not unless they have another disability. there are already enough people who abuse handicap parking.

If that's their only problem and if it's caused by overeating rather than other health conditions like you stated in one of your posts above, then absolutely not.

I would rather see someone with a clear physical disability get a handicapped pass, like someone who needs a wheelchair, cane, walker, etc. If said obese person has legit mobility problems, then they should get a pass, but the way I see it is that too many people abuse the system as it is. I've seen way too many people swing into a handicapped spot, hang up their little tag in the rear view mirror, and just waltz right up to the store without so much as a limp or a care in the world and it pisses me off, especially considering I have members of my family who DO need handicap spaces. I could just see hordes of overweight people in America claiming they need the space because they're fat and using that as the excuse.

Yes. I agree with what
coy
said - overeating is not the only reason for obesity, and even if that is the reason the person is obese, that doesn't make them any less deserving of a public service.

that's kind of ridiculous. that's like people who try to get handicapped parking passes when they're 4'10 and say they're a midget.
plus if obesity is their only issue... they could use the exercise.

while i know a lot of people have other problems (genetics, overactive thyroid, etc) that got into obesity i don't think ALL obese people should be able to get handicapped parking spaces. i think it opens up for too many other people to want one for stupid reasons--i'm left-handed! it's a handicap, gimme one! (lmao i'd never do that but you know it's some idiots who would.)
i think there should be a screening process and only people who absolute cannot manage their weight should be allowed one. not just anyone who's obese and doesn't care.

if it hurts their mobility, then yes. i don't think people (in general, since i hear so much bullshit about this from people offline) realize how ignorant they sound sometimes. and when i say "ignorant," i don't mean "judgmental," i mean i really think some people don't truly know and understand what they're talking about when they say certain things. even if you're morbidly obese and it's because of over-eating, once you get to a point where it hurts your ability to walk, it's much more difficult to fix or reverse the damage that's been done than if you're just obese. walking certain, longer distances can actually become
more
hurtful to a morbidly obese person.
if their mobility is not compromised, then no. or if someone who once needed handicap person loses enough weight that their mobility improves enough that they no longer need handicap parking, then it's only fair for them to no longer be able to use that service.
and that "then should pregnant women get special treatment too??" card doesn't phase me one bit, because i actually do think parking lots could benefit from parking spaces available specifically for pregnant women who are far enough along.

yes regardless of whether or not their mobility is compromised for the sheer fact that disabled parking spaces are bigger than regular ones. this probably comes across as completely ridiculous but they would be far more comfortable getting out of their cars.
